I know am not a great poet, syllables was never my thing
I know am not a poet, I never was
But life turned me into a thinker
I was long lost, now am a believer
Felt like an outcast, in a land full of deceivers

you know am a keeper
I kept it all in while the world was cruel
I didn't know how to grieve, I was never taught how to cry
my heart grew solid, despair was my comfort
I searched for answers, but uprooted more questions

I tried to jump, but your hand held mine
I tried to hang, but the rope wasn't tight
I tried drowning but the tides brought me back

In a world full of noo's, i found a dimple
that hope in a dusty room
a room, far forgotten
I walked in and smoked hope
a pen and a paper changed my life
I can voice my sufferings and victories

*am not a keeper anymore, am a poet

I wish I wasn't
But I am

                      I wish you weren't
                      But you are

I wish we were
But we'll never be

                     It's not you
                     It's not me

I wish I'd stop wishing
for things that cannot be
Wishing only wounds the heart.

You are a fiery cloud of confidence.
An unbending
tree in the midst of a raging storm.
The quintessence of Africa,
The mother of nations,
An embodiment of royalty.
The essence of raw beauty,
You are the heart of Africa,
An undying flame of perfection,
A glint of hope.

You do not wilt under the sun,
Take pride in the pigment of your skin,
The fire in the color of your iris.
An epitome of courage and strength,
You are haven,
Utopia in dystopia.
You are every woman,
The beat of tribal drums.
You are music, poetry, dance, art.
You are a monument, a sculpture made by the Most High.

You are beautiful
You are Africa
For My Beautiful Black Queens
(And every other woman out there!)
Proudly South African

Could you take this broken heart
this funeral beat, this withered soul
and take it back there to the start
to love again and make it whole.

Could you take these doleful eyes
of faded green, once emerald bright
and bring them up to meet with yours
to fill them with your loving light.

Could you love me in this moment
disregard my broken bones
shattered by another's longing
take my hand and lead me home.

If you could, not everlasting,
for a second, suspend time
would you press into my darkness
to place your healing hand in mine.

This I ask with humbled chorus
not for better, nor for worse,
the love you give it will not linger
let your blessing be my curse.

Always choose words wisely
as they can do such harm
use them not to wound or hurt
belittle or disarm
for confidence is fragile
it masks the truer self
that child inside wrapped tight in scars
that dare not love itself.
The pen is mightier than the sword

Beyond the sorrow
Beyond the pain
Beyond the moment
it starts to rain
Beyond the sugar
dripping from the cane

Is where my love for you remains

Beyond the hope
Beyond the dream
Beyond the horizon
in the East
Beyond all this
and all of these

Is where my love for you will be

Beyond the tune
Beyond the beat
Beyond the smile
that it all brings
Beyond the promise
of the ring

Is where my love is for eternity

How can I explain this mystery
Of the amazing grace that's changed the heart in me
All because of Christ and Christ alone

It's not who I am or what I've done
There's no hope for me in how I perform
All because of Christ and Christ alone

There's a great chasm between that separates
The love of God from my mistakes
All because of Christ and Christ alone

The arms held out on that shameful cross
Endured sins pain to endear the lost
All because of Christ and Christ alone

In Christ I trust, in Christ I am
No great mystery in where I stand
All because of Christ and Christ alone

Christ is life, that's all I need to know
Where I need to be is Christ alone
All because of Christ and Christ alone
