It slips through our fingers.
At the end of it all,
there will be only a few
questions.

Did you love enough?
Did you give everything you could?
Did you spend your life on what mattered?

It rules us all.
Careful it does not pass you by
while you are busy sleeping.
Just thinking, I suppose.
Flies swarm when the floodlights come on.
They **** and they fight, live and die.
In the space of an hour
turf becomes a bed of glass wings-
none are left
straining for the light.
It looks like a mass suicide.
Eggs hatch in the sweat of night.
Tachycardic at birth,
one brief exultation
enough to still the lung,
nullify the heart.
Yawn out of existence,
bullfrogs croak miserably
as bodies fall from the sky.
You ask me why I cannot sleep-
I saw a thousand deaths tonight.
C
you can't
erase the tries
outside the lines

but you can
paint over them
Your tender kiss
Formed a swirling mist in my mind
It left me there wondering
What else could I find if I opened my eyes?

Your gentle touch
Stirred the passion in my soul
And just for a moment, I tended the thought
Of what I could know if I touched you just so

Your wavy hair
Brushed away all my cares
And tickled my nose
For a moment or more

Your warm breath
Left whispers that rang in my ears
My heartbeat grew quicker
As you pressed yourself near

But...

Your magic compelled me
To open my eyes
And as my dream ended
You bid me good bye
