After the smoke clears
I survey the damage.

Or rather the lack
Thereof.

My eyes have grown.
My mouth narrowed.

I'm all ears; all hands
Unclenched.

I've learned to appreciate
A hug from my father,

Felt just how well
My mother knows my pain

Without a single drop of hint.
Silence. Ah, the silence.

To do what-, when-, however I want.
The freedom of a King Size alone.

My God, the things I gained
In the fire.

when old music
hurts too much
and new one
still hasn't taken hold

when my house
becomes too small
to dance in

when I have
so much to wish for
and too little awake-time
to breathe

then
I would like
nothing better
than to feel
your smile
and the steel of your gaze
on my downcast eyes

and then
and then
you would take me
for a twirl
around the park gazebo
in broad daylight
and we would make
the pigeons fly

wyatt rabbit
The ice it clinks
the straw it stirs
you're making drinks
that won't drown her

She's up all night
you put her to bed
but she puts up a fight
falls asleep with the drink in her hand

Sneak out for a smoke
she's fast asleep anyway
when I came back, she awoke
baby why'd you go away?

But shh you're there now
she's already passed out again
with her little body curled around
yours, she's asleep with a grin.

I sleep with desperate dreams, I sit in absolute darkness,
but I stand alone.
I smile in transient peace, I scream beyond the decibels,
but I weep alone.
I observe with stunning detail, I watch with the diseased world,
but I learn alone.
I wander into a sky full of stars, Along nature's beautiful walls,
but I walk alone.
Come,
Dance with me
Under stars
That have died
Thousands of years ago.

Come,
Sing with me
And let us raise voices
On winds that travel nowhere
And touch no one.

Come,
Eat with me
The food left moldy and rotten
By those who came afore us
On the table just out of our reach.

Come,
Lie with me
On a bed of sweat-soaked sheets
In a room rank with pleasure
Others shared.

Come
With me now
And see the life you were meant to have
But were too busy
With all your anxiety
And technology
And pharmacology
And ethology
And ideology
And erotology
To live.

Come,
See the life you were
Just late for.
