Is dalliance a sweeter state
Due to it's evanescence?
As human beings do we just seek
Ephemeral acceptance?
Or do we yearn eternity
And dwell on it erstwhile
Knowing that our truer selves
Will furtively beguile?
Is affection what we deign to be
A dulcet, soft concession
A short reprieve, a known repose
For sanity's repression?
How much is conscious harmony
How much is chemistry
And what then for the subtle myth
Of serendipity?

Take me to a place
Where the stars shimmer
Like fish scales
Across the night sky
And where we become
Celestial bodies

One with the universe
And one with each other
Wrote this months ago while ******
Living in the summer sun
Emitting our life's breath
Autumn comes and you are gone
Falling to your death
There's summer-sand
Between her teeth
When siphoning
Passion from stones.

And she tastes each
One gradually
As they bring remorse
In mem-ori-o-so,

While catkins fall
Artificially behind
Her soul.
Museless#
It was the iridescent shine that first revealed the truth
That beneath the unnatural glimmer was something ghastly
The next thing I saw was my forehead starting to peel off
I took the edge of artificial flesh and tugged in horror
Akin to a serpent shedding dead skin
There was a faint smacking sound
As my eyelids were hastily ripped off
Right before passing a smile made of clay
It was done
I opened up to take a look
Staring at the figure reflected
Into the face of a stranger
Ancient leviathan,
City in sands
Razed in a roar.
Now silence stands

Taller than your
Pillars did before
As the world looks on
It can’t but abhor

Let sleep find your
Great arches now
Though brought down
They did not bow

For their shadows
Outstretch the hand of man
And the rote of
All religion’s plans.

They did not destroy!
They have not won!
And in undoing
Become
undone.
Poem written for national poetry day in the UK, I am an archaeologist, I studied Aegean archaeology, and covered the levant extensively, It pains me that ISIL are destroying these relics... so I wrote about it.
