People twist and swirl,
In a vague impression of motion
A surging stream, bodies mingle
The flowing crowd moves like water
In part I am drawn to join the decant
By a sense of missing human connection
Their minds wrap together twisted
The dance to the command of an embedded song
Snow-like static thoughts are unclear
Haunting blank stares bid me to stay aloof
A jovial atmosphere moves through the streets
On each face a hallow smile portrayed
With great effort, diverted gaze
Turning to new unmolested roads
I will not be swept away
By humanities passing parade
Nothing actually savors on the tongue
     Everything is temporary
Glimpses of Memories Past might be saved
along the creases in your mind,
But they dissipate with the particles in time
Wheels may turn and gears might crank
All will not really be there
Bruises that once covered the ridges of your breastbone
Fade into the skin, the marrow, the blood
Pushing and pulsing that had felt right
Will only be dreamt of as wrong
Home is never a sturdy thing,
No matter how deep the foundation goes
Time likes to play us like a fish testing bait
The fun of it makes us unaware
That we've lost the hook on what we're looking for.
I want it again, another great night
Wine-soaked cards stuck to a plastic table
Where we can't use names and accents aren't right
And sitting on the ground feels more stable

It's been my favorite by far, you were there
Your smiles was stained with jokes and flat beer
But that didn't make your hand leave my care
Or when happiness spiraled and left tears

Will there be a night when you're not around?
When shadows gather but don't look like yours
It's the only one that helps keep me bound
The buoy that saves me from hitting shore

These nights are what life created for us
When liquid courage pushes me to trust

Green veins wither down
Life escapes with autumn's breath
Taste before the bite
The noise of cold fills
Valleys of snow dust and flakes
A new symphony

Summer's warm currents retreat
the advancing brisk amber sunsets.

Submerging the world under
the reign of enduring starry nights.

The maples blush as Autumn whispers
the gentle lullaby of Winter's sweet breath.

Erasing Summer's memory with a crimson brush
preparing the golden landscape's long frigid rest.

Tonight I had plans
to study your voice and memorize
the exact color of your eyes.

Plans to lie in your arms
underneath the stars,
maybe sneak into your heart.

I didn't plan to sleep
because tomorrow I'll sleep in Boston
and our little chapter will be all done.

I'm already starting to forget
how your voice sounds,
and now I'll never find out.

But it's fine.
It's not like I even wanted
to say goodbye.

swerving

this feels
like the moment
when your lifeline
suddenly branches off
and you feel yourself
swerving away
from what you thought
was your destination

this feels
like the moment
when everything changes
you lift your glass
and the wood is stained
maybe next time
you'll use a coaster

this feels
like the moment
over a glass of beer
in a dark bar
you'll remember
"that's the moment when
I lost her"
