In place of shadows
sunspots and creases
an embankment the gray of day seizes
nailed to peril as a savior
pushes out all traces in its labor

Dust and smoke
--the heartless void
above the faded ring of hope
      say a sated prayer
      for your fellow wayfarer

I'll shield your body between
the rays and surface
I'll be your dark clouded step
when your own feet fail to purchase
     into the ground they sink

"Life is so short",
said a man to his wife,
"So short I want to cry!"

The wife replied:
"I didn't know my husband
isn't a man, but a butterfly".

Love can make us losers
Invested in love’s game
It can hurt to be human
But..
I love you just the same!

When the dusk skies’ moon
Finds us creeping through the night
Might I take your hand
A gentle grasp with mine
And pray to our God above
That the moonlight won’t catch us in time

My heart is clumsy, heavy, and shy
It stumble through love, ensure of the sky.
I reach for the stars, but my fingers fall.
I dream of the moon, yet I loose it all.

Each beat is a whisper, a delicate sound,
But I drop every word before it's found,
It longs for the light, yet stumbles in dark, A dance without rhythm, a miss in the spark.

The weight of my heart, it drags on the floor,
A longing for love, but it's never quite sure it alteres, it quivers, with hope and with fear,
A heart full of love that can never quite steer.

And yet, through the weight, it still dares to beat,
With every misstep, it rises, repeat for even a clumsy heart, through it may fall
And still dreams of a love that can heal it all.
Help me to grow in this journey of being a writer 🙏

A coarse, yellow coat with dark spot aplenty
Lean as a greyhound with limb long and lengthy,
Faster than hare from a cold standing start
Impossibly glimpsed in tall grasses that part.
Crystaline jewels in two huge hazel eyes
With the svelt of a feline’s cold killing surprise,
Explosively quick with an elegant gait
And a murderous jaw full of canines that wait
For a fleeing gazelle or a springbok at speed
Then a launch that would emulate bullet, when freed.
Incredibly smooth with a fast loping stride
That would tax any racehorse an envious ride,
Snapping manouvers to left and to right
That mirror a quarry’s evasions of flight.
A blur in a frantic explosion of dust
Then the life blood erupts, splashing red as the rust.

Heaving great flanks after thrill of the chase
Wide open muzzle and gore on the face,
Guarding the game till the kittens locate
Then the spoils of the chase will make portions dictate.*

The universe repeat my lesson so that I never forget.
My limitations are about the depth of my deepest breath.
Two lungs worth of air is all I can inhale, a minute or two of holding you in and I’m forced to expel.
I can’t make you love me, I can’t make you whole, I can’t keep you happy with silver and gold.
There’s really not much in this universe I can truly control.
