Distance
I heard the blaring wails
Of strangers playing pin the tail
On the donkey

Reminds me of a time
When we use to play
Swing the flail
At the monkey

We were young
And feeling spunky

But when the morning comes again
I’ll see you then

Today I’ll wear my positive attitude
Just for you

Till the soil in the flowerbed
Even if I’m feeling blue

I know it may seem old school
That I’m still sipping sweet vermouth

The memories flair up
And I’m returned to youth

Come upstairs
I’m on Floor 2
The one that has
A distant view

Just a couple steps away
From knowing where you are
I feel your presence fade from me
You seem so very far

The little talks
And street lamp walks
I thought would bring us closer

What was I to do?

Worry not your pretty head
None of it was true
Eighteen green balloons
Circling around the bed
A few blue flowers in bloom
Just to counteract the red
In your pleading eyes
Candles carry on the lies
Of specters caring on the side
Just knowing it’s your time

Down the hall the gurney hastens
Secluded, little airtight spaces
Where the walls are growing faces
The Lord left all His grace behind
Installing breathless tangled braces
Locked within are faithless traces
Doubts tumble down a *****
Towards sober trials
Drunken chases
Seems to me too late to race
The pulsing threat of black embraces

A myriad of visions slip
A pair of switches toss and flip
What used to be your fabric twined
Now lies outstretched and slowly rips
Paintings of your past receding
Into modern microchips
Rushing laughter comes to grips
Against a brush of fingertips
Until the shining light makes way
For vessels in memoriam
The last of life escapes in ships
Faintly passing by the sound
Of others on their final trip

Happy Birthday, Grey Sky
Happy birthday, grey sky
You were always so shy
Unwanting
Unwilling
Just itching to hide

Come on and say hi
Or hang there and cry
Unstable
Unmoving
Receding from life

I cannot say why
You're resting up high
So earnest
So honest
Yet failing to try

Concerned for your pride
With quickness and stride
I'd say you've played safe
If not for the balance
You battle inside

Pondering over and over
Until I can't sit still
I think I've had my fill

Mysteries overhead
While all its edges spill
Within a songbirds trill

Echoing far beyond
Across the verdant hills
Bending neatly as it builds

Eyes peeking far afield
Just to savor thrills
From such distant kills

Sound waves shame the schism of the hemispheres,
Lost and found like anomalies,
Drawing battles out of thin veneers,
And a fading sense of honesty

Your baggage claims you at the gate,
Zipping fast like mood swings,
It finds itself in front of fate,
Each and every bite it brings

Crafting laughter from the silence,
Making names so hastily,
Your open discourse leads to violence,
This vision is now hazy

You'll see yourself a carousel,
A distant faction at the edge,
The rise and fall of broncos,
So steadily they're all abridged,
Mechanically outpaced and flanked,
By armies standing at the ridge,
Of time

A twilight glimpsed through a visage faintly,
Awaiting results from a far away machine,
Slipping codes through random pathways,
Hear them ping so quaintly,
Interlacing on your television screen

Raucous sounds fill the outline,
Momentary pauses to cut between the scenes,
An image floats so freely,
Beyond the bounds to what cannot be seen

It asks you briefly for monetary gain,
Asking questions with no answer,
Your glued eyes mute to all the pain,
Rusting spokes must peddle faster

Metal soldiers storming through the alleyway,
Introducing coldness to the ground,
Praised collectives call for them to stay,
And wrap our souls within the sounds,

Ancient Astronauts
Fraying vines are kicked up, swinging,
Winds changing course to shield them,
Desperate calls are left out ringing,
No response or reaction

A watchful bounty boasts of the autumn haul,
As members, strewn about, are hinging
Wasted flags are clotted in the smog,
Of cities running hot, unflinching

Coerced by diamond songs and halos,
Complete, concise and fringing,
Tangents whizz past the silos,
Around its frame, fogs collecting

Fabled hands reach out to touch me,
Freeing threads from connecting,
Watch the world shed its colors,
Rainbows diffracting shades down the river

The clamor of business arrangements, far overreaching,
Legislate a syndrome
Parasitic clauses penned down are leeching,
Their soldiers sent home,
A *******'s rules are best left for breaching

Stitched within the puppet's membrane,
A captain's log for watching,
Left alone these methods will stain,
And lead us all to nothing

A thank you for our time in passing,
Pleasing rounds of discourse singing,
Asking for what cannot be known,
Behind the curtains masking

Sacred souls divided by a kingdom left in heaven's wake,
Too easily confused by all these rules that seem to bend and break,
Shifting eagerly towards destitution, foraging what's left to take
Leave it all behind or fight for everything that's left at stake

I must forget to love you and toss aside the thought,
Of pressures lining up and brimming timbres leaving me so taut,
You can't be a giant if all the dwarves are standing tall,
Upon the shoulders, figureless, of despots waiting for your fall...

A slightly off center rearranging of the walls
Nick your hourglass just a little and it falls
Some complicated stranger says we're gonna have a ball,
But the clock is unmoving and we're waiting for the phone call

Sip another drip of tonic spiked to oblivion,
Counting little numbers in your head to one million,
Think of all the promises you've made, one billion,
How many of them have you really kept?
Not a single one

Take the last dose and get high on enigma,
Feel the rushed glances of disdain and stigma,
Roughly beating at the bone,
Calculate and then condone,
Simulating frequent tones,
Pulsing quick like metronome,
Now signing off in monotone,

Waste the seas with wailing shrieks,
And do it all again tomorrow!

Watch you stagger,

Imperfect Thoughts
I've never been so careless as to say,
What I'm really thinking,
I've never been the one to kneel and pray,
When the ship is sinking

Doped up on a vision of a castle sitting high,
Leaving me to wonder what it means to be alive,
Releasing and revising a disparity of minds,
So profound it sits in juxtapose to something less divine

Coming down for a moment just to catch up on the latest,
Finding cities rolling bodies to their graves with a wait list,
Consumed by all the pressure like a masochistic sadist,
Struck down by a king who never claimed to be the greatest...

Sleeping Next to Wexford
This society knows your name,
Bits and syllables, all the same
The sound is coarse but sweet, of course
So convince us of your fame

Bang the silver rivet fair,
Spike the spigot through the air
Catch a dream and set the theme,
To ****** their rosy, rolling glare

You can be a memory,
Advance to take the cavalry,
For turnabouts and troubled doubts,
This rest cannot be shaken,
By a burning moment's fantasy

Feeble minds,
Think feeble things,
Feeble brides,
Wear feeble rings,
When sleeping next to Wexford wakes you,
What will your devotion bring?
The bull has come to terms with death,
So He sings a solemn cry,
His body slips beneath the waves,
So long and goodbye

The crane has urged again His needs,
Among them dreams to fly,
Never will His wings reach,
So long and goodbye

The frog is deep in meditation,
Feeding off the world's frustration,
He finds himself a wicked lie,
And belts it out to all Creation

They beg the sage,
"Oh, sage, give breath!"
He utters soft yet fast they run,
A simple phrase,
With simple fun,
"Seek a man of sound decision?
Find him first with perfect vision..."

Your fingers numb and pull away,
Into the crowded streets you stray,
Before the moment strikes you down,

"Something near the window shutters

Another ghost would have a word,
Before his mind begins to flutter

Angel scraping flaking skin,
The peeling walls are closing in,
Take a dose of spinning sin,
Feel your bounty swell within

Approaching now its final plunge,
Absorbing all the excess grunge,
The merriment of vice expunged,

The Shell
With every toil of the bell,

Add a layer to the shell,

Complex, yet thoughtfully dispelled,

By wonderment and tales to tell!

A writer, strong, will know her craft,

A mathematician pens her graph,

But smiles glow and speak beyond,

The many ways you make me laugh

You show me now that love is pink,

Slowly letting shackles sink,

You reach beyond the world to think,

With heart and mind in equal sums,

Impart to all the missing link

Behind these walls of mental health,

You feel aghast at all to view,

That beauty surely rests with you,

So never let this dusty shelf,

Convince to you a lack of wealth,

Give to all upon the Earth a gift today,

Reveal yourself...
For her.

Warmth
Dead trees and butterflies,
You have the heart to look me in the eyes,
Calling out for warmth from a melody of cries,
But there's nothing on the outside

Let me know when you hear a sound,
Crashing through the woods,
Nowhere to be found,
You'll know it when you feel it,
Time to come around,
Tell me who's the one with the ******* crown?

Stake your petty rhythms 'till their memories,
Throw your simple temper to the simple breeze,
Dance and prance away to put your mind at ease,
Cause I'll make sure that your enemies,
Are nothing save a moth or a pile of dead leaves

You'll let your guard down, still full of pride,
Then the men come knocking with nowhere to hide,
Tell your children, tell your friends,
That's it's alright,
That's when I'll know that there's nothing on the inside...
Despite your lack of flowing diction,
You seem to know of this affliction,
Rivaling the Roman fiction,
Tassets turn to your position

"I speak a name but give a story,
One to years I've spent away,
And one for years of future glory,
The walls of dust you once beheld,
Can now give way to pastures knelled,
By death and life and grief, a meld,
Of several pieces stitched and sown,
To teach to you, memento mori"

Once-stable souls now rest on thistles,
Leaders launch their pretty missiles,
Towards dens of daggers, stones and whistles,
The name we sought now has a face,
"A waxy, shiny, formless gristle"

This place cannot commune with plague,
If held to motives ever vague,
Your scriptures lined with pictures ample,
Bereft of science, truths or samples,
Though as the saying softly goes,
Glory be to leaders trampled...

The Hummingbird Blues
You're a killer,
You're a fake,
You're a burden,
You're my mistake

Weaving lifetimes through the frame,
Slinging numbers, tossing names,
Your shallow heart is not to blame,
But sorrow will convert your shame

Waves of flesh conform before,
The tyrant ship, now come ashore,
Cannons sprawl a liquid spore,
To castigate the nameless *****

Seeking shelter from within,
Broth of brain and shoals of skin,
Free the body from its form,
A multitude of shadows born,
To kiss your grief or blunt your scorn

And once again you crooned in your unknown speak, with a:

"Hum-diddy,
Hum-adda,
Pum-padarray!"

Knowing what words to say,
But then you walked away...

Are you afraid?
Of being played?

I'm just here to tell you that you're wrong,
You're just here to fake it til' I'm gone,

Upon approach, with facts and all,
You've brought with you a righteous haul,
In step, a dance of victory,
To spite the guilds of history

"A crucifix is ****** to fail,
If Honor's face is blue and pale",
You lie to string the vengeful gale of providence,
Along your trail

Behind your foot, a lagging force of gravity,
As if a horse, compels itself to gallivant in misery,
When no reproach is cast on he,
Who shields himself from revelry

Strike your fields with rusted scythe,
Convinced, your crops now take their life,
In what seems as though a winter fair,
Alas, your fruit is torn and bare,
Again...

Senselessly for all the world,
Out it shies, and "it's a girl",

Echoes From an Ailing Crown
I just don't understand,
You gaze upon this fertile land and shrug,
As if to swat my hand!

I know you're feeling down,
What if we made you wear this crown to bed,
And watched you flounder like a clown!

The morning seems to call,
For ways to break your sawtooth walls,
But you'd rather build them up again,
So watch your step, you just might fall!

Beaming red and in a daze,
You seize upon what little praise,
Could crawl from such a crooked state of mind,
You dragged us all to the ground,
When trying to emerge from this haze!

Sing your tune for us tonight,
Fill the halls with awe and spite,
As you fumble all the way through this *****!

"Fiddle-dee-dum,
Riddle-me-***,
And cloud out the insufferable hum,
With dancing, prancing, loads of ***,
Perhaps it's time that I recite!"

Semi-God
Flick the brush,
From here to there,
Pointing species,
Dull and rare,
To hideaways and rivers' gush,
Gentle, true,
But what a rush!

Power trips the finger's pace,
Across the ever-looming face,
Of cosmic panoramas new,
Or oceans deep and verdant blue,
"To think I've found my niche",
I call amongst the stars, so very few

Strike the hammer to the world,
Imagination comes unfurled,
In pulsing rhythms, they now hurl,
At me the bulk of Heaven's churl,
"You've wasted seven days",
They chant,
"Though now it's time to paint a swirl!"

With blue, green and white, I ******
Towards a dream with little lust,
But quickly my mistake is found,
And lost throughout the artful sound,
Of clashing blades and bitter crowns

I fake a breath to earn the death,
I've sealed within this crass display,
Pressing precious feet to flames and leading men to disarray,
I fooled my hands to guide the way,
But now I simply kneel and pray,
To sculpt this world for one more day...
God pleads for more time to craft the Earth. We simply weren't ready.

Excerpts From the Wind
Here and there,
But gone so soon,
Leaving footprints in the dunes

Your ship is cast to waves astray,
Vibrant lights in full array,
As plumes of dust connect with rust,

What is that sound which clings to air,
Where none withstand the winter's bare,
But wolves, ticks and mounds of bricks,
Though softly playing, unaware it breathes,
New excerpts from the wind...

Wondrous to see your face,
Help yourself to our good grace,
Grab a stout,
Or stroll about,
And shove an anthem down your spout,
Consider it an English tout,
Of tidings' nigh and endless chase!

Command the armies from your mind,
Halt their fevers to a grind,
And spray the burroughs far and wide,
With what's green to human eyes,
Blind a ***** with witty stamps,
Bruise a lout with hardened clamps,
To numb the void of armored stance,
You brave a smirk; your saving dance

Closer now, the introspection,
Daunting brows to blue complexion,
Relive a day within a year,
Calm yourself, there's none to fear,
But all the ways you could have neared,
The end

You see the ear, but miss the eye,
Compute the ****** I'd need to fly,
To meet a grave so well-endowed,
As yours, you claim, would make us proud,
To glean the odd and shake the bones,
Of "Satan's spawn or Casey Jones"

Yet now it seems you'd sake a jewel,
To venture on to Heaven's rule,
If not for you to die the hero,
Then for I to die the fool...

Shifting hands to softly mock,
The nagging tick of mortal flocks,
Atop this fetid, burdened rock

Arranged in dandy rows of twelve,
Nestled firm above the shelves,
They strum a tune for silent crowds,
To dust and grime and hellish clouds

Waiting for its muse to strike,
As if a match or flame alike,
It leaps from hours seeking rhythm,
To seize upon a growing schism

Ringing out, it quells the chime,
Weeping children stand in line,
Dead men all accused of crimes,
Against the grueling pace,
Of time

To Kill A Monarchy
Closing rifts in hatred can **** a monarchy,
But morale grows to **** it anyhow, you see...

A year can pass like light through glass,
But still you’ll never see...

Fighting scrapes,
Ignoring scars,
Can only make debris,
Of what will never be…

Listen close,
To how they speak,
Of listless killing sprees,
Or whisper to the trees and croon,
Their sacrilegious plea…

Still you haunt these rigid spores,
Of flowered enemies,
But dawn’s wreath may only cometh,
When your heart concedes,
To crooked tales and bloodied gales,
Of life amongst the free…

The Gamble of a Racketeer
"The tenacity of man,
Is often diluted by his apathy"

Remove the casket from the shed,
What better day for newly-weds,
Than kissing ashes, free of life,
Or tempting coin for future strife?

Softly shouting flagrant bribes,
To twist the arms of simple brides,
While dancing in a shadowed veil,
Her pennies trudge through muddied trails,
And miles deep, the ocean rails,
Against this failing tide

A hurried lilt,
Controls his voice,
As urchins weep for swift rejoice,
A calming dread removes their choice,
To plead for cases lost to ages,
Toppled by a mound of pages,
Marked by years of silent threats,
Rending truth for standard wages

Struggling to find the innocence in death,
He defies to cut his veins with ****,
While choking on a corporate scheme,
And gambling our hopes and dreams,
Like bars of gold turned smithereens,
Defending lies to break the ties,
Which sow him to this mortal seam,
For good...
The prices of many yield the benefits of few.

In a Sense, Innocence
"Fear is defined,
As the body and the mind,
Colluding with the imagery,
And hosting,
False dichotomies"

"A joyful man can dream,
But nothing more than steam,
Shall beckon forth,
From the wake of his dismay"

"In a sense, innocence is but a view,
To conjure crimes and let them stew?
Those who breach upon this writ,
Are sentenced to the wall to sit,
Staring down, those little twits,
Searching rooms for lights unlit,
Verily, I spew!
Innocence is nothing new"

Thank you for your wisdom, Ms. Anthrope,
Instilling minds and knotting rope,
Comeuppance yields such narrow scope,
In dealing with a child's mind,
Teach them truths and learn to cope,
With bitterness and aging thoughts,
For blooming eyes,
The world is nought but hope...
For some it may seem rather brash,
To weave the tale of Edmond Thrashe,
Sans his whippings from the lash,
Or lacking proper pomp and dash

But knowing this,
It seems amiss,
To punish crimes,
With stale remiss,
Of facts all gleaned,
From prior bliss,
For timely fates,
Or demon's kiss

Whispering, they calmly nod,
But digits on the hand of God,
Clutching firmly,
Wield the ****,
Of bodies stacked,
And heaped with laud

Weave the strings,
From gilded threats,
Of unpaid dues,
Or ancient debts,
"Steal the night and place your bets,
On Thrashe's bloodied pirouettes,
Of shame!"

Stepping firmly from the plains,
He waltzes stiff as Old Lorraine,
In blackened boots with clamps which strain,
His sickly, dirt-encrusted frame

Bouts of anger curse his throat,
While he staggers towards the boat,
With withered boards, and broken oars,
"****** by visions",
They all wrote

Unfurl the sails,
And set for Wales,
'Tis there he'll "thrash" among the gales!
Of tacit seas,
And growing dread,
While wishing bullets,
To his head,
Which never'll rear,
Their crooked lead,
'Round here...
This poem is told from multiple perspectives.
