don't get too close…

it's dark inside.

it's getting dark, too dark to see.
fading in and out with each hesitant step
If i let you in, what's next then?
i can feel the pain in your eyes;
wanting to get close but falling back at the
last second.
creeping deeper and deeper inside
until there is nothing left but the sadness i started with
it is time.

cut out all the ropes

and let me fall.

in the morning when i wake,
let the sun shine through
fill my lungs with sweetness

breathe me in and hold me
close
whistle me songs of love and happiness

then fall
fall
softly back to sleep

Bring to me infinity
From where it dwells in lore
Or return with empty, wounded hands
And speak of it no more.
For if we are eternity
As one, when brought together
Why then do our faulty lips
Find pause upon "forever?"

Twist my gaze to the side
Through the copper-and chocolate curtain of my hair
Through the sea of faces
And one amongst hundreds
I could pluck you, like the ripest apple
From the lowest branch.

And in this ocean of bobbing heads
Of flapping lips and empty eyes
I'm just floating
Just alone, drifting
Hoping you'll throw me an emerald glance
A lingering lifeline
To reel me in from this
Crowded loneliness.

We are all torn paper dolls
No sounds we make when we do fall
Could etch into our porcelain skin
How easy paper is to bend
We have been cut and ripped and folded
Dipped into glue mached and molded
I have learned I am not that thin
My will remains though paper bends
I know we all are paper dolls
One by one in line to fall
I thought us weak until I knew
The falls were a choice
Instead I flew
I wrote this for my creative writing class.

I would sing praises of you to the world...
if only you would remove
your hand from
my mouth

I see now
what they say
how love
smacks you
in the face

like an inevitable
falling leaf
or
how the moon
pulls at the
waves

love is un-
controllable
and can't be
cut away
and only
grows
incessantly with
your
every embrace
