Before my feet you fall
Your twist and turns
Your heights of hard gruel
Years of travel and tracks
Is why you have grown
Yet you lead me through bliss
And deep into the unknown!

The breath that breathes "I cannot"
Precedes the one that does
And bleeds into that final phrase
That's silenced with a hush.
Invading with paper mache swords
Paper rattlesnakes, yellow flags
Blood runs thicker, red down stitch
Ludicrously looking for loose cigarettes under the seat
Rinse and repeat, dig in, position, overlapping fields of fire
Intersecting in the wire
Blowing ash off the tip of Camels
Down the drain is where the plan goes
Forty years a Poet,
sixty years a man

Calling to me distant,
my last Etesian

Time at best deceptive,
a trinity of masks

Present truth accepted,
the one not first or last

Drums now beating softly,
their rhythm stills my heart

My spirit free to chase the wind
—this world I now depart

Her heart dances like rain
as the earth plays an ancient rhythm.
With the stars and their smiles,
She loves, she dreams.

Cold hands with a warm honeyed kiss,
A greeting he's conditioned to miss
Like a star itching for an appearance through a cloud
She wonders,
Digging through layers of knitted blankets
After celebrations and tangled banquets
Was there ever a time when her touch wasn't found?
