Lament the tall sweet meadow grass
where wind no longer blows
lament the lark that’s taken wing
and left us only crows
but you and I endure my love
through rain and wind and sun
for only time can part the ways
when two hearts beat as one
I have been inspired by a play to try old fashioned love poetry

I am Zero
Don't Judge

Don't judge me by my skin,
Don't judge me by my sin,
Don't judge me by what another says,
Don't judge me if I live a different way.

Don't judge me by what I think,
Don't judge me if I stink,
Don't judge me by how I live,
Don't judge me by what I give.

Don't judge me if I'm not smart,
Don't judge me judge my art,
Don't judge me because I want to be free,
Judge my merit if you're gonna judge me.

We all live and we all die,
We all get angry and we all cry,
We all love and we all sin,
If you're going to judge do it by what's within.

Snow Selmon
could I borrow a few more miles
my wheels are flat
and it's getting dark
and the pink of day
is fading to grey
a few more miles
is all I need
a tiny distance
that feels like light years
and I'm waiting for someone to pass
maybe their waiting on me
to get out of the dark
and stand in the light
to put up a fight
but these tires are deflated
the lights are gone
I dream of your arms
ones that felt safe and like home
where I was someone and not bare bone
you are my power
even if your not here
you are energy you are everywhere
you are my destination
the place I'm stuck in between
the place I can't go
is where my home is
so I'll wait out the night
and inflate my tires
go a couple miles
until I find you
even just a glimpse will refill me
I'll be on my way
humming my love away
so that you can breathe it in
so you can see what I couldn't say
you can feel what I was scared of
so I'll drive
far, far away
so I won't hurt you no more
bye, bye my angel
I hope the light treats you well
I saw them
working as
old schlepps
like you or me
postering as
flawed and human
but I know
they walk perfect
upon the earth
ordained in shrouds
of shimmer
upon them
and when you are
not looking
they sing of
liberation
between
the moments
while blessing your
face with God

The taste of butter
The shade of green —
All is a wonder as they seem —
The first taste of wine,
the feel from the textures of the vines,
and how sand slips through my fingers
brushing away as the wind lingers
Feeling my cheeks, a tender stroke —
It was... all a wonder —
Feeling through the woods, wearing my silk coat
Far out the distance, I hear the water stream
How it sings so beautifully, no ounce of demean
Life is all...
                      A wonder.

Rose glasses
couldn't turn blue to red

Our rose garden
to where a compass once led

it's wilted and singed
ashes in the wind

But never again
will I plant a garden

never in a place so dry
so windy, too

No, I search for greener pastures
colder weather to work in

where the sun doesn't burn
where the garden

isn't a chore
but a hobby

I now understand the time of the Renaissance,
Where the clouds painted across the sky were strung of gold,
How the sky was painted by Michelangelo’s hand,
Where the cherubs danced and sang amongst the fluffiness of the timeless sunset.
I understood the dream of the gods painted in soft lights and surrounded by gold,
I began to understand the offerings and the worship to the creatures that blessed us with the sun and sky.
I started understanding when the sunset before us stretched into forever when I looked over and you were painted in those golds,
Those soft rays of peach and marigold.
To feel effervescent in a moment that made me feel warmth and love,
To know your name and heart in the ever increasing stretch of sky,
Is like painting the clouds so I can have an excuse to gaze upon your face while you watch in awe of the colors made just for you.
