My arms like vines,
I wrap myself.
White knuckles,
I grip my skin
Like the seat of a shaky airplane.

Holding tightly,
I try to steady trembling
That undulates through me.
The teasing provocation
And amorous taunting
Leaves me wanting today.

But I bite my wrists
To extract my attention
From my cavernous mind
And fix it on the skin about to break.

I'm itching for softness
To cover me like armor
And protect me from the jagged edges
That protrude in me.
I need some sweetness
To quell the bitterness
That saturates my mouth.

Be soft and sweet for me,
I know that you can.
Be tender and warm,
Or leave me to cry.

I'll constrict and wring it out of myself,
If I have to,
In time.
You can see it
When it is going to rain
Trees turn up their leaves
It will rain within the hour
It is fail-safe
(It’s actually usually within the half hour)
I’ve never seen it be wrong
There have been times when I’ve
Seriously doubted
Rain was on the way
But the trees knew better than I
I now use my rain detecting talent
To let my youngest grandkids think I can
Make it rain
Trees can help humans
Be magic

I’m submerged in a secret heart
it’s dark
but I don’t need to see
it’s warm
with invisible fire
it’s soft and dreamy and safe
I would like to stay
