I'll never tell you how I feel
the way I've lived my short years
Smile of the lips, cadence in my walk
I'm never honest when you want to talk
Ill say this and that, but my words will lack
Because what I mean, I always take back
I'm not trying to be mean, with you I'm not mad
Just right now, my thoughts are rather sad
I'll never tell you how I feel

Contrails, like brushstrokes
made with measured and elegant
exactitude
wash over the halo of white light
worn by mother moon-
the persimmons of night cut through
the vaporous blanket of winter,
swaddling the earth below in mellow
reflected light,
saying "carry on, my sons
and my daughters,
the night shall pass,
but until then I give what comfort
I can."

I know you're looking at my photo
the one we took on our first date
and the song I wrote
I know you keep it on repeat
and every time your phone rings
I know you're hoping its me
all the little things you miss and can't forget
and all the good times you reminisce
remember at first it wasn't me who said I needed space
but no matter how much room you have
your heart can't forget the best love you ever had
you asked for this space

imagine the feeling
that crying in your
younger brother's
arms gives you,
and then try to
forget it like i'm
doing right now
"momma can't buy you a mocking bird."

Writing a poem is not my obligation,
But it's a command of my heart that full of emotion.

I remember you standing there.
The sun shining through your hair.
You were all I ever wanted.
But now I'm haunted.
By memories of a better time.
When you seemed to see through the grime.
And loved me for who I was.
But that was another life.
Now you're somebody's wife.
And I'm left walking this lonely road.
Nothing and no one to call my own.

I don't ask for much
It is only everything
Only the world
Only that you would help me
With unadorned sincerity
Subtleness and humility
Piety and virtue
Show me mercy
