I'd be Things Fall Apart.
I would teach you something important,
While remaining a beautiful work of art.

You'd find out in the end,
Why a 120 pound white girl
Would be the one they send.

I would give you a safe world,
I would show you another universe,
In your arms, for safe keeping, I would always be curled.

There would be significant wear and tear,
But my cover would be soft and deceiving,
Like my shiny velvet hair.

If I were a book,
I would sit exclusively on your shelf
Because what are the chances of being understood by anyone else?

I like to pretend
I no longer have a heart
but sometimes
I pull it out of the bottom drawer
and speak to it
just so it knows
that I know
its still there
and apologize
for all I have poured over it
to bury its existence
and all the times
I gave it to the undeserving
I make promises
that it will be freed again
someday
then safely tuck it away
and sneak back out of her house.

You really wanna know
what grinds my gears
what pushes my buttons
what ****** me off
People. Like. You.
You can't play me like that
You can't play her like that
You gotta pick your choose
You think that I don't know?
Boy I'll pop you one square in that pretty boy jaw of yours
And you'll be sorry
You got nerve ya know -
I'll give you a pat on the back for that
You're trying to be sly
See what you can get
before you dive in
All I gotta say is
watch your back

I cannot stop writing about you. Every little thing I can remember, I've written it down.
I've written you down.
A permanent stain on these sheets.

If I could rearrange my body,
I'd move my humorous bone to my brain
because, honestly, I'm the last one to get the joke.
The sole of my feet would house my heart
so every step I take, Mother Nature feels my love.
My ears would be close to my hands
so when I reach out, he'll see that I'm listening.
One eye behind my head, the other facing forward,
one looking for stray daggers, the other focused on the future.
I'd move some bones to form a breastplate
because I'm more afraid of what's to come than what happened.
I just wouldn't want to loosen my humanity.
Prompt: misplaced bones

If a military veteran
with P.T.S.D. dresses in drag,
Is he a traumaqueen?

Your words are generic,
Your mouth- just a hole.
You can match every syllable
But you can't match this soul.
