Sounds swim constantly
Through the aches behind my unopened eyes.
The latest slumber trek is at an end.

The pace of my brain
Akin to a shortsighted grasshopper:
No focus,
Leaping all over the pace.

My inert body
Resolutely immoveable.

Just 5 more minutes.

Totally terrified
Of ending up
Exactly
Like everybody
Else is
Andrew Fahey Feb 2017
Putting my foot firmly on the pedal
We come to an abrupt,
But expected
Halt.

Wanting to be bored
But suffering with frustration.
The disco tail lights offer a way out
That is not taken.

What hope do we have?
Like sitting on a rock
Its not that bad
But it could always be better.

Steering slowly east
The shadows move
Faster than the grass growing.
Need to check the paint.

Familiar settings
Allow for the tasting of an expected dinner.
Not mundane
Not after this journey.

Rising slowly
Knowing the top means the end
Watching as others pass by
Feeling the excitement underneath

Expanding with pride
The elation reflecting on similar faces
Wondering just where I came from
When...

"Get in there!"
Can't say it loud enough

"Awoooo!"
Feeling awesome

Unbridled grins
Yelling with vigour

Hi fives
Energising others

Since when did we stop skipping?

Walls close
Echoes burning
Writing unpleasant
Light flickering
Shadows jumping
Locks secure
Footsteps distant
Invitations lurid
Seat flipped
Room empty
Time still
Feeling calm

Dad
Dad!
I need you, Dad.
Dad!
Where are you?

What is this?
What's that smell?
Where do the ants go?
Can you tell?

Do snails have brains?
Can I feel their slime?
Where do bubbles come from?
Is there time?

Will I always grow?
Can I fly?
What can't I remember?
I do try!

Dad!
Where are you, Dad?
Dad!
I need you!
