"gamestop" poems
Where I’m From I am from wires, from electricity and TV screens. I am from the dust covering the console. (Piled high, thick, It made me sneeze) I am from the Sega Genesis the Nintendo Who has long been forgotten amongst the shiny new games. I am from controllers and memory cards, From Mario and Sonic. I’m from the hard core gamers, And the once-in-a-whiles, From You win! And Game over! I’m from Thou saveth the princess With Donkey and Diddy And 10 cheats I know by heart. I’m from GameStop and Best Buy, brand new plastic and overheating console. From the controller thrown across the room To the memories, bonding brother and sister. In my closet is a box, filled with old games, scratched up discs that will never again work I am from these games created before I was born, born from the tree of electronics.

Where I'm From
i had this strange notion that new clothes would make people want me. like a tripping over a new stereotype and taking it home to dry would make people notice me like my pictures on instagram now that i can hashtag "gamergirl" "nerdgirl" "glasses" "geek". like somehow big bows and tight jeans loose sneakers and earcuffs and fake glasses would finally sort me into the right file with all the other people like me (?) like me. are you like me as in the clothes i'm wearing the movies i'm watching the games i'm playing are you like me like the words i use like the smiles i smile like the imitation kim kardashian perfume that i buy (?) i had the feeling that people would notice me that hipster boys in starbucks would take a sideglance, then go for another peek that boys from ivy-league schools would ask for my number that gamestop employees would stand too close to me... and i was right. but being right doesn't always mean you're happy and though i am somehow now interesting and attractive and easy to sort into small plastic boxes i feel empty poor cold materialistic basically, i feel like every girl i have ever envied. i don't know why i envied them. they are not like me.

like me (?)
Alright, I'm standing in a rain soaked field looking due North at the stacked glorious nothing. And the vapid brands that stamped and covered these walls are an echo of their vibrant former hues. The people drive round and down trying to get to their brown house maybe. The parking lots are planar grey graves, commemorating the former lives of the ghosts of shopping malls past dying ghosts of shopping malls past. Right on, I'm walking through the Holocaust memorial with my coat buttoned to my throat. The dying lights of the Sharper Image really makes a mockery of what they left. There is the shell of a Banana Republic. There's Old Navy, Gamestop, Footlocker Shoes. This is the food court where I hit on that girl who ended up being as forgettable as a food court meal. Okay, now I'm looking out just one mile south at the excavators pushing the dirt and the rock Digging into land bought by the City, to build up a new store or twenty This new real estate is assured to bring "vibrancy" to our local economy. Those old stores aren't the right location so let's just leave, they never existed and a single family of mallards swim is circles in Yorkshire Lake. Calmly watching as the engines get closer, not really expecting their time is over to bring in the future of the ghosts of shopping malls past. Another ghost of shopping malls past.

Ghosts of Shopping Malls Past
You are my darling, You are my sweetheart. You're my love and your father's just jealous. I can swoon and I can flatter you. You're the reason the moon hides behind shadows, Cause it sees you and gets self-concious about it's figure. When you summit those mountains, you're the reason those fish swim upstream. You pick those strings better than your brother picks his nose, And boy does he do it well. Rug makers idolize you because of how you weave those words. The ebbing of the ocean is in constant competition with how you swim the tides. And with all of your multitalented-genius I wouldn't be surprised if you could calculate the coordinates of the sun while sprinting a marathon But I know you'd just find that You are sunshine. Watch out for those boys, chica, cause the line for you is longer than Gamestop's. If you never understand how well you recited your ABC's that 1st day of elementary school, I just hope you know... You make the bees jealous, honey.

The Bee Keeper's Daughter
I need to get from Point A to Point B. Point B is at your front door, where I am standing with a tray of homemade of freshly cooked pancakes to start your day right. I won’t forget the maple syrup. Point B is at GameStop, We would wander around the endless aisles as you go through the games you love, hate, or want to play. And I would hold your hand, and tell you mine. Point B could be at Starbucks, I would order coffee. You hate coffee. You’d let me go on and on about the book I’m reading, You’d tell me your favorite books. And maybe I’ll recite some poetry here and there. Point B could be anywhere, As long as you’re the one driving. And I ride shotgun. Point B is at that Pizzeria place you want me you go to, I can finally try that pizza you were always telling me about. We should order dessert, too. Point B is in your bed, where I would actually wake up beside you saying “good morning”, and not having to read it from my phone. We would cuddle. And exchange playful kisses. Point B is where I want to go. It’s where I need to go. Point B is you.

A Bee Keeper's Daughter
I have a sad story that requires music that's played by a fiddle. I've been wounded and I'm spending Black Friday at the hospital. Gamestop announced that they were knocking 80 percent off of Playstation 4s. Less than one hour later, paramedics wheeled me through the hospital doors. I tried to grab a PS4 from a woman, I thought because she was a woman, she wouldn't put up a fight. But she stabbed, clawed, poked and she even decided to bite. I really wanted that Playstation 4 because of how little it cost. But when that woman was through, a lot of my blood was lost. I'm at the hospital on Black Friday and it's a real shame. Why did I want that PS4, I don't even like video games.
