There are times
When I wish I could be a child again
Because, as far as adulthood is concerned
There is a lot of pressure and expectations
And many complications as well
Work, relationships, time, money, health
The list is endless
Also, let us not forget
That I am a divorcee
And yearning for a second marriage
Or at least, some kind of romantic relationship
And at the same time
I have to deal with work as well
Anyway, I wish I could be a child again
Because my childhood was awesome
Lots of love
From my family, cousins and relatives
Playing cricket with one of my close cousins
Going on train trips with family
Having fun with schoolmates
Including enacting the part of a Japanese anime princess!!
Playing chess with my maternal grandfather
Watching the golden era of Sachin Tendulkar
Listening to AR Rahman classics
Watching the best movies of Superstar Rajinikanth
Playing tennis with my father
During my second visit to Mumbai
And best of all
Having a life free of tension and worries
Except of course, as far as studies were concerned!!
Well, there were bad times too
For instance, the bullying I faced
Which forced me to leave a renown school
In the span of just one week!!
Nevertheless, on the whole
My childhood is something to be cherished forever
And reflecting back on it as an adult
I am filled with a sense of nostalgia
Being a Potterhead, I wish I could use a Time Turner
And go back in time
In order to revisit all those fond memories in person
Yes, I am not ashamed to say
That I wish I could be a child again
Self-explanatory!!
Lily Priest Dec 2020
Mischievious whimsy,
knee high flare
Loosely lifted
On warm summer sighs
Pink on paleness
Lilting with each
Light step
Of bare feet
On burnt grass.
Dainty matchstick
Wrists, turned quick
And ringed with daisies
That drop their petals
Like wishes.
Hair all caught sun
And caught sky
Above cheeks
The colour of flowers.

I wander down memory lane
Crossing corn fields, climbing over farm gates
Meandering through cobbled streets
Golden sandals on my feet
Tanned skin glowing, oh so brown
Smiling, laughing never a frown

I wander down memory lane
Swimming in blue sea, climbing rocks,
surfing in the choppy sea
I have a feeling of being young and carefree
Holding hands with my love, hands fit together like one soft glove

I wander down memory lane
Christmas tree standing tall, dropping needles on the floor
Mulled wine warming on the stove
Christmas tunes playing on the radio
Wrapping presents for the children, while they sleep
Presents wrapped, stored safely away from their keep

I wander down memory lane
This time a road trip to foreign lands
Car packed full to the brim, clothes, games, buckets and spades
Walking along glitzy promenades
Dip our toes in the warm ocean, walk on golden sands
Play mini golf, ride on a big dipper, have a late supper, go to the circus, catch a band

I wander down memory lane
To March and an usually warm sunny day
My wonderful Dad by my side, i step out the car a smile a mile wide
Todays the day I say i do for the rest of my days
It all goes by so quickly and in a bit of a fuzzy warm haze

I wander down memory lane
Full of wonderful memories and happy days
I wander down memory lane
Just for a while
The memories i recall making me smile
Its lovely to wander even just for a while
2 years on Thursday i lost my Dad, the weekend has been about remembering such happy times.

Saturday afternoon at about half past three
I would settle down in front of the tv
My Gran and Grandad in their chairs watching Lucille Ball Show or Fred Astair
At 17 45 the football scores would be read
My Grandad checking them off one by one
Chasing 24 points the top score, fingers crossed for a score draw, eight of them would set you right
Ah this week its out of sight, better luck next week, we'll try again
My Gran would always  bake, buns or a cake
Coffee was my choice of drink with Coffeemate instead of milk I was posh I would think
A slice of sponge to go along I can hear my Gran say "are you going to have a slice today"
Then she would always add" there's 3 eggs in there"
I would smile and say please Gran after all It was Saturday and all was right with the world.
Loved my Grandparents this is all so true, happy happy memories
