“I pledge allegiance,
To the flag,
Of the United States of America.
To the republic,
Of which we stand.
ONE NATION
Under God,
INDIVISIBLE,
With liberty and justice for all”
We are suppose to be united,
We are supposed to be indivisible,
It’s in our name,
UNITED States of America.
But I’m sorry,
We have never been more divided.
People are burning our flag,
The symbol of America,
The symbol of our freedom.
People are kneeling during the National Anthem,
Where soldiers have died fighting for the freedom to do so.
A boy from my class had been sitting during the Pledge,
And that was the most disrespectful thing I’ve ever witnessed.
We have riots,
People rebelling against Trump,
Fighting to tear down historical monuments,
Destroying what we once proudly called, America.
The land of the free,
The land of the united.
For when we are united,
Nothing can tear us apart.
But now, instead of outside forces trying to split us up,
We are doing that just fine ourselves.

Rag
Once there was a cloth.
It was pretty and blue
and white and red.
Everyone thought it was grand
because it flew up so high.
It stayed there all the time.
But since it was so high up,
nobody noticed the fabric tearing.
Nobody noticed the stitches failing.
The people just saw the cloth
way up high like it was before.
The people never noticed
that their cloth had become a rag.
Patriotism blinds one to the problems and flaws of their country.

The fire in my belly
the boots on a dancefloor
the felt hat i wear.

Texas is my home
no one can take it away
lone star state of mind

Allan, Waylon, George.
my idols growing up.
Texas is home

frio river, gulf coast
fishing in summer
barbequing in spring.

my home sweet home
is the country music
in the truck

my home away from home
is in the shop
with my brother and a welder
i was listening to Allan Jackson and i thought about this
jess Apr 2018
now, i know that from reading the title, you may skip over this.
but please, let me explain myself first
contrary to popular belief, country music is not all about
trucks and girls and drinking.
it is about real life.
about heartbreak and passion
learning and failure
new experiences and adventures.
sure, some of these things include trucks and girls and drinking.
but the instruments they use
cause your heart to sing along.
the strum of an acoustic guitar is one of the most beautiful sounds in the world.
it is calming
and makes the artist's words fit together
in the most perfect story.
we get to listen to someones life
in the form of a song
that has just the right amount of slowness
mixed with the hillbilly music from the south.
i may not have the ability to live in the country
but the music that comes from there
makes me feel as if i'm sitting in a bar
hearing a guy in a cowboy hat strumming along
and explaining his life to us in a wonderful song.
NO JUDGING. people can like whatever music they like and you cannot change that.
