one's shadow
is one's best friend
it's constantly there
until the end

it's the best friend
one ever possesses
and of its owner
it never second guesses

so be glad it sticks
so reliably close
one's shadow
one's best leaning post

You slipped a rose into my chest
But love like that I can't just forget
Even roses have thorns that tear everything apart
The petals dripped red from the bleeding of my heart
I never thought anything could be killed with love
And now nothing can be as it was
So I'll pluck the floral arrow just to bleed even more
But I don't regret anything I said or did before
With every memory of your warm arms or your voice
A rotting petal falls to the ground like morbid confetti in a sickly rejoice
And now whenever I see your face in reality or in my minds eye
The scar starts to burn and I turn out the lights
I guess that's what I get for welcoming you and your roses
So now I'll take my shots of love in smaller doses
Because thorns don't outweigh bitter words and fleeting love
When everything seemed like more than it truly was
the world quietly welcomes the dawn
darkness before the sunrise
all is still

as I wait patiently in silence
my heart wakes up to a
new day
written right after I woke up before morning meditation

They grabbed the future by the reigns

Right outside the wedding gate

But alas with passing years

The age of old gets hard to take

Who knew that as of late

Memories would start to wain

Both of them still feel the love

But deep inside so much has changed

In the fog of her mind

She recognizes the familiar face

But as hard as she tries

She can't recall the familiar name

He takes her by her fragile hand

Comforts her with it's okay

Your still my girl, I'm still your man

And it will always be that way

He remembers well his wedding vow

All the promises that he made

And all that heaven will allow

Though they're both now old and gray

Over the years with so much

They held on tight to the love they saved

So at this time they'd have enough

For the likes of this day

Cradle my emotions in the gentlest of whispers
Lace my heart with sultriest of ribbons
Fill full my sail with the worthiest of winds
Engulf my being in the sweetest of notions

Colour me beautiful with the most vibrant of rainbows
Propel my universe into the farthest reaches
Soothe my aches with the most abundant love
Carry my vessel to the sandiest of beaches

Embed my thoughts within the fluffiest clouds
Let soar my dreams on the bravest of kites
Set my destination in the furthest horizons
Present me with life's buffet with the tastiest of bites

A heart so fine in charcoal skies
of breath my mind does see
This captured feeling locked inside,
alone as to believe

For what shall come of morning tides,
along the wish filled shore
In seashell decorated time
to want your love once more

What sent this ship of harbor dreams
to sail a course so lost
As currents bide my every whim,
now simplified the cost

When once the sunrise happiness
did take a weathered turn
For but a few words offered up
in lessons I have learned

My sails, the moon’s reflective light,
does glow an empty grin
Atop the wave’s deserted flight
to want you here again

For this shall be my journey true
in aimless rambled roam
If I have not the love of you
I sail these seas alone

Of courses kept in lock and key,
an island beach does call
Upon this deck on bended knee
Amidst the darkened squall

As life will raise its mighty hand
of you that I do seek
Collapsing firm upon this man
in testaments of weak

Come set these chains that hold me tight,
my body craves the pain
As on these seas of bright moon light
I cry within the rain

When time does dance and hours pass,
I plead these charcoal skies
Explain to me how this can be
in scenes before my eyes

“Take me home,” my heart does call
begin this journey new
For I now live a nightmare’s creed
without the love of you
magpies burble their liquid caramel sound
cattle move slowly restricted to ground
creeks ****** by gurgling through rocks
mist whispers gently through dripping tree tops

from the verandah faces north-west
grey blue and white move westward in peace
south-east is filled with dull leaden grey
promising more wet as was yesterday

low pasture green in clover for winter
creatures now fat through drought now no whimper
hope for the damp to stay until spring
in wonder again reborn everything

a richness of hue diverse to the eye
odor and taste of this freshness of sky
autumn's rich carpet red gold and green
dark brown earth the best ever seen

a handful of this early of morn
held to the face from it we're born
such baseness and scent almost a touch
of where life came from a wonder is such

cool moist this air is cleaner nowhere
breath hangs in puffs strolling no care
where else to be the Burrapine clime
will do for me the rest of my time

Blinded by the light
Stood outside to stare
Counting clouds in groups of two
If only I were there

Dreams may come in circles
Rounding out the bend
Ovals in a cornered box
Wanting you again

Laughing through the sadness
Easing past the fear
Bandages of cotton call
Wishing you were here

Singles by the double
Threes improve the score
Adding up the right and wrong
Needing you once more

Pens run out of ink
Pencils break their lead
Chalkboards need to be erased
I’ll love you instead

Poems have their verses
Often they do rhyme
It really matters not to me
As long as you are mine
of the shackle and of the chain
yoked in vain
the serf and maid
labors unpaid

they sought freedom from master's cane
such a harsh bane
in the sun's rays
toiling for days

on our orb slaves still traded
their light shaded
dreams of a key
unto liberty
