The fire;
Flickering embers of light.
Pain and sorrow come with beauty.

The water;
Glistening in the spring.
It gives you life.

You go to touch,
but you flinch.
Just admire it for a while.

You jump in,
Your teeth chattering,
Everyone laughing.

You think of the good.
Warmth, light, love.
Your heart itself is flickering.

Before you return the laugh,
the weight over bares you.
Soon, the air leaves your lungs.
