The mask, as they say, is a friend of mine

Behind that mask is where I spend the most time

The mask just might be my very best friend

That mask seems to be my beginning and my end

The mask is there to keep people at bay

That mask tells everyone that I am okay

This mask I’ve worn since I was a child

Make everyone laugh, be funny, don’t dare disappoint

I am the good boy set out to change the world

That mask becomes tattered, aged and worn

Much like my spirit, tired, sullen and torn

Soon comes the time that energy I have not

To put on that mask and walk into life

I’m tired, so tired with the light ever further away

Is it time, my time, to say goodbye to today?

The mask is a friend of mine, or so they say

dating a writer
is like guessing the weather.
you think you know what you'll get,
but you never do.

you never know
because

she'll create a hero
from your weaknesses

and she'll write a great character,
from every last flaw.

she'll create a thousand plots
from your worst nightmares.

she'll take every last thing you hate
and create something you'll love.

she'll turn your anger
into confessions of adoration,

and she'll make you,
everything you're not.

but worst of all,
she'll leave you wondering-
is it you she's in love with,
or things she's created from you?

but here's the beauty of it:

if you date a writer,
you'll never die.

Sometimes with the Heart
Seldom with the Soul
Scarcer once with the Might
Few—love at all.
A fearless soul,
Filled with passion.
A love for her family,
So strong, try to imagine.

It's broader than the galaxy,
Would drive some to insanity,
But not my mom,
As you will see...

She speaks her truth,
Without a doubt.
Never appearing aloof,
Day in and day out.

She is persistent,
"For the squeaky wheel gets the grease"
And also consistent,
"K-I-S-S, Keep It Simple, Stupid"

And as tough as she seems,
Beneath her petite stature,
She is the mother of dreams,
Intentions clean cut, and so pure.

Words can scarcely express
Her fundamental role.
With her, we coalesce,
Making our family a whole.
I love you, Mom! xo
