My dear friend, how is life treating you?
Do you still watch the stars every night like we used to,
Or do you watch the ceiling in the dark like I do?

My dear friend, how is life treating you?
Do you still hum tunes when you get bored,
Or do you think of me like I think of you when the lights go off?

My dear friend, how is life treating you?
Do you still cruise down the streets like we did,
Or do you walk alone, like I do, hoping that our paths would meet?

My dear friend, how is life treating you?
Do you still smile as bright,
Or do you now have to hide?

My dear friend, how is life treating you without me?
I hope you're not falling apart like I am without you beside me.
the selfie stick
with a gun at the end
pointed at me
shooting you
I want to rip my skin off
               And crawl into someone else's.
The radio plays the local station,
They never stop moving.
Like ants in a colony,
Everyone has their job.
The queen barking out orders,
And the workers building it.
So focused on the next task,
They forget to celebrate
Each new thing they build.
The fear of judgement,
Hiding the scars,
No one can keep it up forever,
You slip up once.

But it's okay,
They accept your faults,
And begin to help you.
They care, they smile.

You start to trust,
You feel safe.
The fog lifts,
And you feel the sun on your skin again.
