Smoke and mirrors
Unforgiving sneers
Steering you through the show
Go where they say to go

Finish the play
Smoke and mirrors
Bow deep down
Smile proud

Costume off
Makeup gone
Smoke and mirrors
Mask replaced

On your bed
Close your eyes
Forget who you really are
Smoke and mirrors
Looked in the mirror, nd
I didn't recognize who I saw
I placed my hand on the mirror, and
My jaw dropped in awe

She was skinny and pretty
Everything I wanted to be
I turned away and shed a tear
That isn't me...

I stared at her
For a minute, I think.
I tilted my head, she stood straight
I just saw my reflection blink

Mosaic
Fresh peace paved onto the steeple of your memories
In the church of your lost belongings
I tasted scripture
But I need a stronger drink than God
She was a strong figure
Not a manly or womanly type
But emotionally strong.
She held a smile all along
While internalising the pain
That kept herself feeding
Her own anguish to the point
that she wasn't herself,
but she held her head up high,
and lived life without a single sigh,
facing troubles head on.

She was a strong figure
Or so I thought
As I awoke to find
Scribbled across the cold
Hard cement ground,
In chalk it read
"I'm done as promised,
I love you mum, dad
& Kevin".

News came much after,
And the fruits carried
From the growing tree
Were anything but laughter.
Half of the story is true. Half of it isn't.

It may be demons you're fighting,
But it's angels dying.
And people like me caught in-between.

Good intentions you're laying,
But the path you are paving?
Not sure if it leads where you think.

And I 'm not saying you're wrong.
I'm not claiming I'm right.
Not conceding that there's one or the other.

I just want you to wait,
Halt your raging crusade,
Before one thing leads to another.

So caught up in the ends
That you forgo twists and bends,
And turn a blind eye to the means.

You have something to prove,
But much more to lose.
There is time: you're still green.

And while there are battles worth picking,
And wars worth pursuing,
How you fight matters just as much as who wins.

So just take a breath,
And take stock of what's left,
Before you can't turn back because you're too far in.
