I made friends with the darkness
on the night the stars refused to shine
and the Moon hid her face from the Earth
Shadows took my hand
gifting me with lunar eyes
as a nocturnal wonderland
was unveiled before me
in all its darkened splendor
I walked the sleepy midnight pastures
under a black naked sky
a newly born creature of the night
I will not nurture hate
Like a rotten seed in a lush forest
Tainting hallowed ground
Poisoning fruit, instead
I will taste forgiveness
Sweet and rich and I will let it
Consume me, knowing that
Nature herself does not know anger
Or anguish, and though I may hurt
The green of the woodland soul
Is the healing salve for all ailments
And after being ravaged by fire
I, too, can grow back whole.
I dreamed up a world
Where reality had tilted
And the sky traded places
With the sea
We walked on streets
Of fluffy clouds
Caught stars in fishing nets
While gazing up at celestial waters
Making wishes on flying whales
Staring up at the ceiling
From his spot on the floor
His worried friends
Keep calling
He keeps pressing ignore
Surrounded by empty bottles
And a fancy invitation
That contains
His ex’s name in calligraphy
With a date and location
Part 1 of a work in progress
The droplets, becoming whole again,
as they became puddles, and grew closer.
It was silent,
Except
The conversation playing it’s trick on the mind, as text became voices.
Voices unheard like a quiet bubble, floating on a sea of unrest within.

In the silence,
As the unnoticed got heard,
A slight hint of inspiration returned.
Inspiration that was lost,
Just like the droplets on the glass,
Moving in randomness unaware of the outcome.

In the wind and rain,
In the deep darkness of the night,
It wasn't just the road that was drenched,
the mind was too.
Unaware,
Unsure,
Of what to make of all the webs that it fed.

Conversation ensured,
droplets met, puddles formed.
It wasn't just the water that was flowing any more,
This time,
It wasn’t just the rain that fell.

This time as smiles spread across,
It stayed, and spread.
It reached the mind, and enfolded them in its arms,
Hoovering memory,
Whisking them off the tip of their tongue.

In the silence of the night,
The voices of the mind.
The rain made puddles,
The memories…
THEM.
Watch out for power,
for its avalanche can bury you,
snow, snow, snow, smothering your mountain.

Watch out for hate,
it can open its mouth and you'll fling yourself out
to eat off your leg, an instant *****.

Watch out for friends,
because when you betray them,
as you will,
they will bury their heads in the toilet
and flush themselves away.

Watch out for intellect,
because it knows so much it knows nothing
and leaves you hanging upside down,
mouthing knowledge as your heart
falls out of your mouth.

Watch out for games, the actor's part,
the speech planned, known, given,
for they will give you away
and you will stand like a naked little boy,
******* on your own child-bed.

Watch out for love
(unless it is true,
and every part of you says yes including the toes),
it will wrap you up like a mummy,
and your scream won't be heard
and none of your running will end.

Love? Be it man. Be it woman.
It must be a wave you want to glide in on,
give your body to it, give your laugh to it,
give, when the gravelly sand takes you,
your tears to the land. To love another is something
like prayer and can't be planned, you just fall
into its arms because your belief undoes your disbelief.

Special person,
if I were you I'd pay no attention
to admonitions from me,
made somewhat out of your words
and somewhat out of mine.
A collaboration.
I do not believe a word I have said,
except some, except I think of you like a young tree
with pasted-on leaves and know you'll root
and the real green thing will come.

Let go. Let go.
Oh special person,
possible leaves,
this typewriter likes you on the way to them,
but wants to break crystal glasses
in celebration,
for you,
when the dark crust is thrown off
and you float all around
like a happened balloon.
Life
And all its endeavors
Usually end in forever
But never
Surrender
Your smile
Death
Is an unjust
Punishment
But never
Surrender
Your smile
Power comes
When weakness grows
But never
Surrender
Your smile
Evil will triumph
A time or two
But never
Surrender
Your smile.

Because smiles have power
Smiles are infectious
Even when life is sour
Smiles' sweetness silently severs
Our connection to pain
Pleasantly putting to perspective
This putrid pestilence
We call progress.

So when you feel down
Never.
Surrender.
Your Smile.
