in isolation
they became lost
cut off from face to face
communication
it was akin to wandering
aimlessly
around a darkened forest
as time dragged on
depression and anxiety
enveloped their very being
as they were shut away
from precious interpersonal
contact
numbers of people suffered
mental health issues
which have quadrupled since the advent
of Covid Nineteen
the long periods of lockdown
took a huge toll
on those fragile souls
within our communities
a touch and a warm
heartfelt embrace
is a fellow humans
wished for grace
Song of love, twisted by welling darkness.

Vengeful art, practiced with vicious subtlety.

The softest lips whispered the hardest lies.

She exhaled an evocation of ethereal dreams,

Whose only prophecy was eternal sorrow.

rise early
mist the first murmurings of morning
and the blue
smudged by a finger
to a dusty half-purple
half-nectarine sky where the perfect
blot of post-Christmas sun welcomes us

commas of snow
like the night shedding its skin
a chill coating our throats
but each inhalation a gift
a lungful of life

Explanation: A poem written in my own time inspired by a friend's image of Langsett Reservoir in Yorkshire, Eng;and. Feedback welcome. As always, there is a link to my Facebook writing page on my HP home page.
There is no solace for the brokenhearted
The injured heart will not heal
It refuses entrance to happiness for some cuts run too deep
The concept of love now being too surreal

Alas there is no consolation for the brokenhearted
They suppress their tears and shelter their hearts
Turning their eyes away from that which they secretly desire
Denying the light instead keeping company with the dark

Pity the brokenhearted
For they exist in a world of pain
No longer being able to bear the human touch
Denying the very emotion, they seek in vain
