Colten White
My cigar smoke rolls into the
tranquil night sky,
tumbling through the constellations,
forming a nebula from my breath.
The glow from the cigar
lights up a little corner of the cosmos,
burning a hole in the universe-
a small escape for my pains,
because sorrow can't float to the stars-
light years away,
like the feeling of spirit,
separated from my celestial body.

If you join me on a journey
with no destination in mind,
I will know I have found love in you,
because neither of us are there
for the end of the road,
but rather the end in each other.

Ponderosa Pine

I saw the aurora lights in your eyes
Fresh streams and salty tides
I tasted strawberry fields in your lips
The sweet tongue of coconut as it splits
I swayed the tepid summer grass along your spine,
Gliding leaf petals in your hair, as we sat in the strong branches of this Ponderosa Pine

The place where I now go alone to ponder of you
Today, my vision only grows blurry, as it crowds with a deep population of blue,
The heaviness on my heart of a lighter branch almost spoils this beautiful view,
However, I can trust that this tree will never run from me,
It will stay rooted as promised; it will remain much longer than you
The softest, kindest, chocolate eyes,

Stare up at me, from where he lies.

Full of trust and love and pain,

I hold him in my arms, as the rain,

Falls upon him, or maybe its my tears.

I was now living the nightmare of my fears.

The white coat is moving slowly, out of his sight,

Those eyes are still gazing at me, with a shining light.

I see the needle enter, my eyes shimmer and blur,

As I blink back the tears, I clasp tighter to his fur.

As the clarity comes back, I gaze down on my pet,

The light has now gone, the sun has now set.

I want to howl out loud, for my old faithful friend,

I am so pleased I was with you, right to the end.

I've counted the minutes
and walked through the day
Awaiting tomorrow
when I'm on my way

Sat on a park bench
alone with the wind
Thinking that soon
my whole life will begin

Searching for reasons
the past has been lost
Paying the price now
regardless the cost

Emptied my pockets
of trinkets and trash
Spilled out the quarters,
the last of my cash

Lingered for hours
balloons in my hand
A bouquet of daisies
all part of the plan

And when the last thought
of the day it was gone
Made my way home
and I wished for the dawn

All of these questions
that my heart does ask
Trying my best
at the brink of the task

Still I am waiting
for merely a word
So that I know my
I love you was heard
I know it's dumb, I just wanted to write something.

Paradise

.

The colors of our paradise
Invite us now to go
Yellows like a daffodil
Greens and blues aglow

Tangerines and cherry reds
Paint our destiny
Pack your bags, head out the door
*And run away with me

We walk this perfect afternoon
The fields so full of green
While springtime brings the world to bloom
As if inside a dream

We’ll breathe the air so fresh and free
And share a kiss or two
So beautiful this world I see
*When I am here with you
