i miss your buttercups and bluebirds
the way your rain falls warm on my skin
and how your sun lights the longest day.

come back to me
come back to me.

i asked the wind if
it would be your surrogate
carry your burdens
the things that depress your soul
too heavy to bear alone

I'm the kind of girl who remembers the first day I met you.
But forgets where I placed my phone two minutes prior.

The girl who sees the sadness you hide behind your smiles,
but takes ten minutes to finally see the can of green beans in front of her.

The girl who smiles at people who've hurt her.
And say's, "I'm fine" when I'm not.

I may never be the smartest in the room.
Nor the prettiest in the group.
I might never be the funniest.
Or the one that always has everything figured out.
But I can guarantee this:
I will always love.
I will always smile at strangers,
and listen to those who need to be heard.
I will always be respectful to everyone,
despite our differences of opinions.
And I will always be kind.
This, this I promise.

A Kiss

I kissed your lips
And I didn’t know
That
A kiss can move my soul.

I kissed your lips
And I didn’t know
That
A kiss can be the beginning of my fall.

I kissed your lips
And I didn’t know
How I used to feel
Before that kiss sealed my lips
With bliss.

The greatest thing

~

I chased the sun
until it set

I watched the rain
while getting wet

I went to sleep
so I could dream

I danced beneath
a soft moon beam

I sang a song
way out of tune

I pictured waves
out past the dune

I climbed a hill
covered with snow

I planted seeds
to watch them grow

I waved at cars
just passing by

I pondered clouds
upon the sky

I counted stars
high up above

I wrote a poem
filled with love

But…

The greatest thing
that I could do

I fell in love
with only you

Winter's amber fire
the ashen woods we burned
wet smoulder of mire
the water and the fire.
Dark ancestral home
nights moon shivering cold
stars fixed or falling
beyond the skies fiery yields
only dying embers
lost in oblivion's field.

How I loved your mouth
the way your words belled forth
rang in soothing song
your lips and all the rest
days of coming home
in meadows or prairie suns
by love's fiery field
how we were
consumed
