One by one
the lights went dim.

The hallway darkened,
as the cold crept in.

Word for word,
we wrote on the wall.

I wailed and fought,
but wrote it all.

Scrawled in squalor,
I spelled it out.

His name the same
and whispered loud,

~ from my mouth.

i used to cradle her bleach-cracked hands in mine
and decode the stardust resting within her fingerprints
up until the day that i lost touch with the art of reading braille
and she stopped slinging tall-tales for me to fetch
and rest the plot-twist at her feet

often in the post-script
i'd find my train of thought highjacked by the sunlight illuminating the rainbow of earth-tones ablaze
in her frizz-ridden curls
as if she'd been washing her hair with the damaged case of beer
she'd gotten for half-price at liqour depot
     she never did quit drinking
          but neither did i

at least we tried

though sometimes
in the middle of the night when nothing was alright
and we'd barely survived another fight
her face would catch my glance
cast aglow by a flood of lava-lamp light

the sea of freckles resting at the crest of her cheeks
rose lips perma-pursed in half tilt
her resting heart-rate so high that i could almost see it
          pirouetting within her chest

it was then that i'd love her best
amidst the ruins of who we were
     just moments before
a love poem, for the girl i can sometimes spot in my reflection.

I never understood,
why being quite some days,
is sinomis with being upset.

Some days I just like to watch,
I find that if most people took the time to observe,
we would have a lot more optimis.

Sometimes you need to get out of your own head,
and just watch and listen to others,
because that is the only way you'll ever understand them.

Some days you need to stop talking,
over all of the voices,
that are trying to teach you so many lessons.

When you are talking,
you are not learning,
but when you stop,
that's where the lesson begins.

You don't always have to be the one telling the punch line,
to enjoy a friends smile.

People are too busy trying to do,
to actually be.
To just sit with your friends,
watch them interact,
and enjoy being there.

i know i am not perfect
my teeth are crooked
i've lost my sheen
i'm aware of all the dents that are me
i know i am not perfect
for i am a re-gifted prize
however a prize is a prize
even if not in your eyes

when i knew you
you lit cigarettes in your mouth
and flowers in my heart. blossoms
wrapped like vines of ivy in my
bones, and your arms wrapped
around me. tulips touched my arms,
and two lips touched my cheek.
an oak tree keeps me tall, and
you kept me grounded. with you,
every day was like springtime,
everyday was happiness. and now
you are gone, and everyday is
winter.
i not sure if you'd call this poetry, but it's something.

I don't mind
that you care.

I mind
that you worry.

Why?

Because I don't understand.
It's not important.
