I sit in semi darkness
And thoughts begin to grow
Mingled jumbled words caused by
The good old mountain dew

And so I take up the pen and page
And the words begin to flow
Words writ in the amber color of
The good old mountain dew

I had a few more sips
And watched the poem grow
Of words and phrases formed by
The good old mountain dew

The amber nectar flows
Its fumes invade your mind
Opens wide the gate of your imagination
That good old mountain dew
You know when I'm camping and sat by my campfire in the evening I enjoy the odd glass of scotch then the words and poems do form and grow in my mind
I have a lovely home
As big as the friendly earth
I have a source of light
As big as the flaming sun
I have fount of inspiration
As big as the dim light moon
I have spacious space to fly
As big as the high sky
I have enchanting sight at night
As big as gala galaxy to relax
I have a cordial host
   As big as lasting nature
I have a sporting spa
   As big as wavy ocean
I have a caring life
As big as my soft soul
I have the bewitching love
As big as my cool life
Earth is my only furnished home
Heaven is my solo soul resort
I am content with what I have

The trees stand stark and bare
Against winters lead grey sky
The snow lays cold and deep
And the earth asleep doth lie
No small birds sing, no little things
Move across the land
The earth in hibernation, a long sleep
As winter makes her stand
I awake one morn in the early dawn
And warmth has come once more
A small bird sings a green leaf springs
From natures open door
Once again the earth awakes and life begins anew
And the bitter cold of winter
Has vanished like the dew
I first posted this a couple of years ago but waking to a dusting of snow this morning I thought I'd repost it

Something I always do in Summer
Is just sit beneath my tree
Yes, my tree
Why?
Because it's about a 3 kilometer walk along a deer path
Anyway sit under that spruce with its shade giving branches
And you enter another world
The heady aroma of pine resin fills the air
Squirrels chatter in contentment over my head
I watch insects unknown to me
Walk the aerial ways
Ants in synchronized dance
The bark cracks do invade
Even in a gentle rain Mollie and I can share this space
Just sit and crack open another beer
And live for another day
No noise but natures noise
No rancid petrol or diesel fumes
Just the smell of mole turned soil
The sound of natures tunes
You know I love to sit in these lonely places
Mollie at my feet
Sit here with a pen and pad
In this special place where I and nature meet
I come here to sit and write sometimes just to think
But all to often when I leave
The pad is shy of ink
You see most of the time I'm quite content
To sit in filtered sun
Most of all I'm so elated
When I join with nature
When nature and I merge as one

Eyes to the skies and mantra repeating
this is the time that I see it all clear
hands on the grass heart steady beating
hardly believing the days led to here
the moon slowly croons head in her keeping
this is the air that I presently breathe
I realize now that I've always been sleeping
nature content in it's beauty to wreathe
light of the night disturbing my slumber
in a way only magic of the eve really can
seeing the world in deep shades of umber
I live in the present in love with the land

"Storm cloud, the beauty in passionate swirls
my eyes never forget to capture, even when far"
the moisture filled wind of desire said with a hiss,
"Ï have an urge elemental don't you get me wrong,
madly in love with your spirited self,
I wish to make you pregnant, our union is destined by nature"

"Ÿour swiftness fascinates me but" she said
the mighty ocean current has set his eyes on me for long
I can't ignore that, he wants me as his consort
see him spray steam and   fumes
wants to keep me close and make his own always
what a wild temper he has, tsunami is another name for him
I belong to him, though sea is too far below"
Wind could see how might is revered though too far down
"But storm cloud, my beloved, remember
I have fallen in love with you for what you are
an angry wind is mighty storm in no time, may I remind you?
I will come, won't find any need to ask permission
taking your hand I'll run away with you
then the ocean current will only would fret and fume
but of what use?" the wind boomed above the sound of thunder
We watch with awe the  drama of elements of nature..

I glance upon an endless vision
With each decaying light, a new
Horizon is born fluid colours
Shine upon my being.

I wait enveloped in pin prickled
Light, I wait for that Time as light
Yawns over the horizon and pulls
Upon the waters, permeating colours
Flood the caressed kisses upon
The waters below. With each collapse
A new picture is drawn.

Horizons arise, they sink below, with
Each like a snow flake falling never
One the same. I sit upon flowing
Shores waiting for the greeting
Of each ascending and descending
Beauty that for a lifetime changes
Everyday of my life.

Part of me is half awake in this world
Eyes wandering the classrooms and halls
My mind is hardly active in this world
And then, part of me roams my memory
Half of me is off trekking smoky mountains
I'm riding a ski lift up Mt Werner, snow.
It's autumn here in the Smokies, crisp
The leaves are vibrant reds and yellows
And a mountain stream trickles by
My feet go numb in the icy stream,
Here is where I pop off my skis to listen
To the sweet sound of alpine fir trees
Here is feeding the squirrels in Yosemite
And hiking to a water fall, testing my faith
Cramming snow into my mouth,
Followed by hot chocolate at a cabin
Here is Appalachian Summers and picnics
And Rocky Mountain Winters and snow
Or slipping under the turquoise blanket
And exploring underwater caves in Hawaii
Memories are so dear, and always reappear
When everything around me is monotonous
I let myself rediscover what was once mine
And I don't even have to close my eyes
To be part of this beautiful world
Loved her tooth and nail
Head over heels
She is my pace-maker
And peace keeper
Her air in my breath,
Eye behind eye,
Her beauty is seasonal
And sensational
She glows silver cream
Glitters green sheen
Cools and warms
Rarely wild, often mild
Stands thru thick and thin
Her curves and curls
Touch my heart
Her enthralling structure
Often captures my rapture
She is of high yielding variety
For long lasting pleasure
My will treks on her hill tracks
Rallies in her voluptuous valleys
I love to live with her
As long as I live in her lap
All I see is her nature
Thanks to Mother Earth!

The withering tree
Bare branches
Reaching out for a plea
Weathered
Yet, hoping for a miracle
Peeling off
The barks from the trunk
Roots trying to hold firm
Reaching deeper
In search of hope
In the midst of ruins
Narrating a sordid tale
Of wilting beauty

The South Country

And the great hills of the South country
come back into my mind
For the great hills of the South country
are my hills where I grew up as a child
Where I wandered the fields and the forests
and studied life in the wild
My heart belongs in the South country
'tis here I can sit and take note
Share my thoughts with my friends
and show them the words that I wrote
You can bury me here in the south country
with a tree standing over my grave
I need no long drawn out service
just a place that nature has made
Hilaire Below was my godfather and his poem The South Country
has always been an inspiration because I to live in the Southern hills, and yes I did wander those hills as a child

The Snow Queen waved her magic wand,
the skies they grew so dark
Clouds moved in without a sound
as shadows did embark
~
Two happy lovers walked along,
they felt a chill blow in
He wrapped his arms around her soft
to keep her warm with him
~
The scenery was beautiful
with geese upon the lake
The scent of pine and winter breeze,
they saw the first snow flake
~
Then the sky was filled with more
ice crystals floating down
They marveled at the wondrous sight
now white upon the ground
~
She stared up at the heavens fair
in circles she did spin
He followed every move she made
as fun would soon begin
~
A thousand little snowflakes white
were falling from the sky
A perfect winter wonderland
about them it did fly
~
And then he saw her do it,
just like when they were young
She tried to catch a falling flake
right there upon her tongue
~
He chased the flurries with her,
their laughter could be heard
The neighbors out across the lake
said not a single word
~
Except to only wonder
why laughter they did hear
When snow was steady falling
and winter sure was here
~
Then they saw these lovers
running hand in hand
Catching snowflakes on their tongues,
now they understand
~
They heard him saying something
yet it was hard to hear
Because these two were far away,
not so very near
~
The Snow Queen she was smiling,
looking at these two
She knew it’d make them happy,
this magic she did do
~
When then she saw him staring,
a wink came from his eye
For he was saying thank you
to the Snow Queen in the sky
~
Now every time its winter
these two just look above
Sending her a message,
floating on their love
~
With beauty all around them
and snow geese on the pond
The Queen will grant their every wish
and wave her magic wand
~
And when the snow is falling
so fresh and oh so new
Between the laughter you might hear
him tell her, I love you
~
