Be there with me Lord,
as I climb the mountain;
as I struggle onward,
to drink from Your true fountain.

Give me strength from sinning,
give me a touch of grace;
keep me on the narrow path,
that leads right to Your place.

Let me be forgiving Lord,
from injuries received;
give me Your just wisdom,
from which I'm not deceived.

Give me a heart that's full of love,
for every human being;
let me be Your shining light,
of strangers I am seeing.

Be there with me Lord,
still my insurrection;
and don't forget my soul,
on my day of resurrection!

And so starts
The day over
Never stay clean
Never stay sober

This is the death
Of all those cares
Subconsciously
Remain unaware

The bottle has been
An old best friend
A handful of pills
And numbness sets in

Just like no love
Just like no friends
And so starts
The day
Over again

A
Depression does not always mean
Beautiful girls shattering at the wrists,
A glorified, heroic battle for your sanity,
Or mothers that never got the chance to say good-bye.

Sometimes depression means
Not getting out of bed for three days,
Because your feet refuse to believe
That they will not break upon impact with the ground.

Sometimes depression means
That summoning the willpower,
To go downstairs and do the dishes,
Is the most impressive thing you accomplish all week.

Sometimes depression means
Faking a smile
To those who ask if you're alright,
Because it's the most convincing mask you can wear.

Sometimes depression means
Lying on the floor staring at the ceiling for hours,
Because you can't convince your mind and body
That they're capable of movement.

Sometimes depression means
Not being able to write poetry, or anything, for weeks,
Because the only words you have to offer the world
Are trapped and drowning and I swear I'm trying.

Sometimes depression means
That every single bone in your body aches,
But you have to keep going through the motions,
Because calling into work depressed isn't allowed.

Sometimes depression means
Ignoring every phone call for a month,
Because yes, they have the right number,
But you're not the person they're calling for, not anymore.
I wrote this poem a couple months ago and I found it in my old journal.  I thought I could share it on here, so here it is.  Thank you for taking the time to read my poem.  Xoxo ~ Avery

What he didn’t say
with voice,
he spoke clearly
with tears
that never left

his eyes.

You’re so polite
and always on time.
Your smile is bright
and lunch is on your dime.
You’re thoughtful and smart--
so intellectually inclined.
I’m rough-edged,
and sometimes offend.
I’m moody and fiery;
I don’t like to pretend.
I might jump to conclusions;
I’d rather break than bend.
But if you were in trouble,
I’d be there on the double.
If trouble fell on me,
you’d tell me plainly
that you’ve got other obligations
to your job and your relations.
So this message I will send:
This friendship must end.
I’ve got no use
for a fair weather friend.
Wrote this poem three years ago after the end of a friendship.
