We grew up with our hearts on our sleeves
I wonder what went wrong?
What happened that made us stop

Adding melodies to our song?

When did the pessimism bulldoze its way

over our shining wanderlust?
Did we close our eyes to beauty and wonder

because we were afraid of the dust?

Perhaps the answer lies in our palms
We just never look at them.
Busy trying to grow our soul from the roots
But cut ourselves off at the stem.
Procrastinating studying for exams. Eek.
Hope you like it.

Oh to be trending with
Praise never ending
For poems I’ve shared on this site.

Likes and reposts give me
Reason to boast -
Justify staying up through the night.

Notifications are
Cause for elation;
The judges DO like what I write!

But a poem too plain
Causes heartache and pain, and
Is often my poor poet’s plight.

No comments, no hearts,
Silence tears me apart
As the view numbers start to get high.

Doesn’t anyone care?
Is it cause for despair?
Don’t they know how hard that I try?

And who really can blame us?
Our desire to be famous
Is a standard set forth at our birth.

Though it’s narcissistic,
We allow some statistics
To define the extent of our worth.

When I group words together
My soul is the tether;
I am sharing a part of myself.

The peril I fear
Is that no one will hear
As the words gather dust on a shelf.

So when the words are ‘bout right
I choose to quit for the night,
Add some tags, then I hit save and send,

‘Cuz when all’s said and done
We’re just writing for fun,
Who cares if the **** thing will trend!

Ocean Blue
Remember your summer storm?
When in the middle of my European night,
Across the Ocean silent cries you would perform,
Me, promising you would be allright.
You, sobbing this storm would wreck it all,
You and me together we would fall.

(thunder)

Now, if you could look at my eyes
As you said, their peace have the power
After a while to soothe your sighs,
Your days and your nights to make quieter.
Indeed, I am like the still water
Of a mountain lake :
The least I can offer
Is to drawn your ache.

(rainbow)*

Alas,
You've decided that
My Blue and your fever,
Among the stars will never
Dance together.

I survived:
My father's death, who left too early,
My mother's trip to the land of forever fog,
The loss of a child,
A few years in the Pool,
Swimming with gentle crocodiles,
The mountain trail somewhere East,
An angry crowd in Musutiste,
On the same day, the shelling in Studencane,
A few disappointments,
One recent betrayal,
And the black cloud nightmares.

I will survive:
The daily headache,
The selection at the Academy
The fading love,
The obsessive longing for Someone,
Yes, I will survive
It all.

So help me God.
Musutiste and Studencane on February 20th, 1999:
twice on that day, God decided it was not due time for me.

LISTENING TO NATURE SINGING
Andrew Juma
Hearing the wind  whistle  among the trees,
In the wee morning hours,

Or  the chirping birds' acappellas,
Among dripping leaves,

And the waterfalls cascading Rocky cliffs,
Clearly one believes that
Man has not written the best of songs,
Among non/ living things.
