Poems

Katelynn Mar 2019
If I could write to the past
Of all that has happened
Of all of what I went through
Of how everything happened so fast

So this to you
To the younger me
To the innocence
That no longer consumes me

Dear younger me
Of all the things I want to tell you
Words can not explain enough
Of what actually happened

Dear younger me
Would I tell how you will go through so much
So much pain
So much heartache
But you will come out so much stronger

Dear younger me
Would I think to tell you the truth
Of all those you will lose
Those who you thought would be there
But now are left confused

Dear younger me
Would I tell you of the places you will travel
Some creating your best memories
Or how others will still leave you up at night

Dear younger me
Oh how I want to protect you
To keep you shielded
From the dark

Dear younger me
Oh how I want to warn you
Of the dangers that lurk
Even in the most trusting smile

Dear younger me
With how much I would give
To be back in your shoes
Even just for a moment

But if even given a moment
I would change nothing

Dear younger me
You will go through hell and back
You will cry some nights until you fall asleep
You will witness things you wish you had never witness
You will try to die at your lowest moments at the age of 13

But do not be frighten

Dear younger me
While you are going through so much
While you feel left in the dark
That you have hit rock bottom
You will rise
Stronger than you have before

Dear younger me
While our life is not over yet
You will meet amazing people
Those who love you
When others wouldn’t

Dear younger me
You will see amazing things
Color brighter than you have before
You will feel peace at times

Dear younger me
Things are never perfect
But you will make it
You are better than you once imagined

Dear younger me
For all the things you wished you were told
For all the things you wished you had done
Even now
I wouldn’t change them for a younger me
Here lately i've been thinking about my past, which is never a good thing. I was givin the insperation for this poem by the song Dear Younger Me by MercyMe. Listening to that song over and over again made me think what would I say if I could write to myself ten years ago. 7 year old me. An innocent child who had no idea what challeges that would be thrown at her. But I grew stronger, and those tough challenges and decisions made me who I am today.

when you were younger,
we use kiss eachother under this tree right here,
when you were younger,
we use to play under chandeliers,
when you were younger,
we use to listen to songs we felt that mattered,
when you were younger,
we use to be the pair that was happy together,
when you were younger,
i use to make you smile from cheek to cheek,
when you were younger,
i use to leave you so astonished that you couldnt speak,
when you were younger,
we use to smile at eachother in class,
when you were younger,
we use to sit here and say we would last,
when you were younger,
you use to say alot of things about me,
when you were younger,
you use to be the one to say we had to be free,
when you were younger,
you to say you wanted to marry me,
when you were younger,
you use to take my hand and kiss it softly,
when you were younger,
when you were younger,
we aint young nomore.

When I was younger
My mother told me that my
father was a superhero
That he was off saving the world from bad people
When in all reality he was off starting another family

When I was younger
My mother  would work day and night
Just so I could have a  happy life
But I always noticed that he wasn't there
Not for a birthday,christmas,
or first day of a new school year

When I was younger
My mother would tell me all these stories
About how she had her life planned out
Was going to do something amazing
Until she had me
Though she assured me I was more special than all
those things

When I was younger
My mother was a role model to me
She showed me what a real women was suppose to be
She never let me forget how much she loved me
Always there with a smile or a kiss
A shoulder to cry on, a hand to grasp when I felt weak

When I was younger
My mother would sing me to sleep
And if I had a bad dream
She'd crawl into my tiny little bed to sleep with me
Holding me tightly and letting me know
She wouldn't ever let me go

When I was younger
My mother would tell me
I could be anything in the world that I wanted to be
Even took me to go see
all the weird medical stuff that interested me
Bought me models and helped me
to learn that knowledge is power

When I was younger
My mother would sit with me for hours
After a hard day of work and listen to me chatter
About politics and news and all types of matters
That shouldn't have concerned a little girl
But my mom knew that her little girl
was going to change the world

When I was younger
My mother would encourage me to be myself
Helped me up when I fell
Dusting me off and sending me on my way
Knowing that I'd be okay
As long as she was there to make everything better

When I was younger
My mother would hang up every award
and display every trophy
Was there for every spelling bee,
chess tournament,
speech contest,
science fair,
concert,
art show,
dance routine, and
parade
Cheering me on
Proud of what her baby had done

When I was younger
And even now that I'm older
My mother has and always will be a constant in my life
Someone who never let's me down
Can turn my moods around
A shoulder
A pillar
A model
A fan
She has always done the best she can
And who could ask for more than that
Not me
When I was younger
a poem for my mom
