Unity Drain Dec 2013
The aftermath of poorly applied algebra is a scramble of numbers, letters, lonely coefficients, and an unemployed ninjas. These characters are much like those of a barbershop quartet, where members can either harmonize or simply fall flat. All of this depends on the song they sing and the order it is sung; algebra sings a song of SVSCOS (Same Variables Same Coefficients Opposite Sides) What else can come of bad math? Nothing less than a burning hatred for radicals, imaginary numbers, the saying 'PEMDAS', or maybe the fact that if you're 21 you must stay out the bars. This being said, Algebra 2 is very much like a dream; once you wake up, most of it is forgotten, but also in that it can be strived toward and reached.

I wear pearls and over use glitter and I don't know a thing about makeup
My face tells you how I feel about you way before my mouth gets the chance to do so
I drink coffee exclusively at 5 in the afternoon, and by the time I am done with it it's a lot more like a cup of cream and sugar than coffee
My heart is big and full of love, but also full of rage and anger for the things I cannot control
I am five feet tall, but my attitude and my drive makes me feel like a giant
My drinking habits could make a grown man cringe and I could out-drink you in any competition
I say hello to every animal I see on the streets and I go so far as to try to pet them all even though they want nothing to do with me
My eyes and my hair are so dark that they are almost pitch black, but my mother swears I was born with baby blue eyes
I do not have any idea how to control my laughter in uncomfortable situations and I have no filter around small children
My demeanor gets sad and lonely every time it storms, and it's not like I was in some terrible rain innitiated accident, I just get scared sometimes
I stare at myself in every mirror I pass and my mother used to tell me I was such a narcissist
My love for everyone I have ever loved has never diminished or passed and somehow that makes me feel vulnerable and weak
I grew up in a city full of crime and gun shots and children with next to no education and I flourished despite that all
My mind knows how to organize words and sentences into exquisite works of art, but do not ask me how to do PEMDAS and do not ask me about photosynthesis
I know the lyrics to almost every song I have ever heard in my entire life and I can sing you any lullaby that makes you fall asleep
So, in conclusion my "About Me" is long and awkward and damaged and perfect in some kind of absurd and silly way

People lack good mirrors
Everybody has a mirror
That we look at ourselves with
And use to show others how we see them
But they are never accurate

Our mirrors are clouded in
Stereotypes
Cracked with
Labels
And shrouded with the grime of
Fear
Making the original picture
Very unclear

You
My friend
Have only seen a poor reflection of who I really am

You think I’m the smart girl who always raises her hand in class
Whose hair and clothes are always somehow slightly
Disheveled
Out of place

You’re sure I’m exclusive
Because you see me spending all my time and energy on only my friends

You believe I’m nice
But in just a “hi how are you” kind of way
Not in a truly sincere way
Impersonal

You imagine that I don’t have any trouble at all
Expressing
a thought
or emotion
That I’m confident
and always know what I’m doing

But really, despite what you think you see,
I’m actually
Quite different
From your reflection of me

I am not always so smart.

I haven't understood math since third grade
PEMDAS???
Nope
Nada
And the tragic truth is that without spell check
Eye wood problie spel lyke thiss

I also own a hairbrush

And can clean up quite nicely
I just like the lived in look
I’m totally not lazy
I just... uhh
Never mind
Who am I kidding?
The truth behind my bedraggled appearance,
Is that I would much rather sleep in than get up early to
curl my hair or pick out clothes that are not from my floor

I appear exclusive

because I only talk to certain people
But I am actually just really shy
Meeting new people scares me
It feels like every time I’m going to say something to a stranger
I always imagine how it could go wrong
And I stay silent
You wouldn’t know unless you asked though
Because when I am around my friends
I.
Never.
Shut.
Up.
And my reflection is chatty and animated

Some days my confidence is so low
I just want to        into the floor
                     sink
And I even have trouble telling my closest friends how I feel sometimes
I get all balled up and closed

In the end I know our mirrors are inaccurate
But if the way we see ourselves and view others
is always warped by our mirrors
Clouded in
Stereotypes
Cracked with
Labels
And shrouded with the grime of
Fear
Making the original picture
Very unclear
Then can anyone realy be truly understood
Or is the way one views everything all just an illusion?
