You were the stars to all my darkest nights
  Jun 2016 The Lunchtime Poet
Traveler
Once I lived deep in a forest
My bleeding heart turned to stone
I disappeared out in the shadows
A hollow tree I called home

I know what it is to be a hobo
Train to train, same house twice
I know how it feels to beg and borrow
To share my roll with scratchy mice

Once I even tried to phone home
But the number slipped my weary mind
And when I finally did remember
It all seem such a waste of time

Do you know what it's like to be a hobo?
Nobody knows you when you're down
Memories haunt you like a cold wind
I was lost but now I'm found

Now I live upon a mountain
High above the raging sea
Timeless, old but not forgotten
This hobo nature inside of me...

Traveler
And so here we are
Page after page
Hearts on fire
Exposing parts unseen
Beneath harden surfaces
Wounds unclean
Broken still we dream
On and on we pen
And so we breathe again
This letter is to my angel
Who died a short time ago
So many things I wanted to say
Things I needed to know

Making a list of the things
About you I'll miss
First thing at the top
Those lips I'll never kiss

Thinking of the walks
That we used to take
All the time in the kitchen
Those meals we used to make

Quiet nights together
You lying close by my side
Working in the garden
Spending time with you outside

Being without you
I don't know how I'll survive
Missing you so badly
God I wish you were alive

I'll try to be strong
And face each day with love
For my beautiful angel
Who's watching from above
