The fiery wind burns our skin
this simmering summer noon
but our resolve is not paper thin.

the river is all ours
I tell her
and she whispers love notes.

When we retreat under the banyan
she scans the grey for clouds
and I her eyes for a mystic hint.

how lovely it would be
if it rains now

she says.

it would
I swear by the river.

We walk away
dreaming good crop
swaying in the river wind.

My lover's eyes
have not yet met mine
But oh how alive
we both felt in the night.
If her smiles are the kisses
of sweet dreams
then why must there be blisters
where her lips did touch mine.
If her heart and soul
both stand the pure
then why must she and I
stand alone and apart.
If my lover did call my name
tell her I did not exist
for a heart as sweet as venom
died in a blistered kiss.

therefore I doubt my own convictions
I have lost my students by my own
wavering.

attendance goes down day by day
and the real travesty is the children
still , I have doubts

not of the truth but
of the outcome
Like Charlie Hebdo

And may I be a violence offender
promoting
free thought so

I am offended by the
attacks that made me rethink
my perspectives

I may be laying into their hands

The dead are all around us
they are as alive
in their way
as we are
in ours

We share a world of shadows
with these manes
and step awkwardly
into the light

Every breath of the wind
is a dead soul passing
every autumn leaf that falls
a secret hieroglyph
from the beyond

Beasts in the wild
know this
thus the coyote
sings his mad lament
the raven turns his dull eye
toward the east
expecting not light
but a flight of dark wings

And dark wings
command my attention these days
my eye
turned inexorably toward
the night

Where every word
is farewell
where all commerce ends
and I rejoin the stream of stars

Done with all of this.
And surely
it will be bliss.
