We've only had one class together,
just one session
ever since then
you have been teaching me a lesson

I failed the test
even asked permission,
for a retake

I doubt what I want to say to you
before I have a chance to speak

You have me schooled
I had you fooled

Unknowingly sealing my fate
after casting the bait
too late

My excuse for not winning
is that I forgot to vote
even though I wrote
my name out on
over three ballots

I'll keep the game up
letting you believe
my heart isn't kept on my sleeve

A moment lapsed,

The gaze was lost,

Our lives diverged,

Eternal cost

strawberry fields
letting loose old chains
you and your wry laughter
defeated by the day old machines
of life and their constant clogging

time's hands tear into spring
nail first, peeling off the light constricting canopy
twisting barbwire off delicate skin
strangling you on a couch from hell

wake up to the smell of bourbon
and dead roses - so pretty
your lashes creating the shadows
on your gaunt cheekbones,
and your name is Soul
i struggle a ton with full length poems but thank you all for reading

edit: thank you, sexywiggle, for lighting this poem up

I look around and all I see
Is a war of pageantry and vanity
Everyone striving to define "pretty"

Waking up to put on a show
Painting on their faces before they go
Start their day with lies, fake smiles, glitter and bows

They have no direction
besides following their own reflections
Spreading their disease of insecurity
and superiority complex infections

As you have gone..
.. I'm romancing with the rain.
But, every drop on my bare skin..
.. Reminds me of you, your touch and your fingertips on my skin.
