I walk β€” as though the daylight β€”
forgot to take my name β€”
its golden invitations β€”
addressed β€” but not the same β€”

The rooms β€” admit my shadow β€”
yet never know my face β€”
I speak β€” but find my echo β€”
has vanished β€” into space β€”

And so β€” I wear the silence β€”
as others wear their skin β€”
for what the world won’t notice β€”
can still exist β€” within β€”
A soul poured in β€”
she drinks me in
through a straw,
taking me in
when she wants,
where she wants.

She stops
when she's had her fill,
returns
when her conscience runs dry.

And when there was nothing left to give,
when the well was dust,

she was gone β€”

no lips to the straw,
no thirst for me.
On being sipped until the well runs dry

She bends β€” beside the Fountain β€”
and lifts the cotton veil β€”
to chase the silver rivulet β€”
the Sun forgot to hail β€”

The water β€” seems to linger β€”
to feel her fleeting grace β€”
and I β€” a hidden pilgrim β€”
find worship β€” in that place
Youth is wasted on the young
Life on the living
Always imparted by the old
And ghosts unforgiving
Quantify waste
You smunt!
The arch criticism
Of the lacking
What was it?
Did your time run out
Just as you was packing?
If you see me, say hello
You’re still my friend
Though what we had is so long ago
Fond memories of hugs and kisses in the dark
Whispers and nuzzles all played their part
In that fabulous time we spent together
When we made our mark in the annals of romance
And our love was truly blind

I’m so lucky to have known you
To have a love beyond sincere
One that will last forever
It’s why I hope you will appear
Somewhere, somehow
Just to say hello
So I can say I love you
Which I’m sure you know

They gather β€” in a circle β€”
all polished for display β€”
their laughter β€” like a mirror β€”
that keeps the world away β€”

I knock β€” but there’s no opening β€”
their doors are made of glass β€”
you see the feast β€” from outside β€”
but never seem to pass β€”

And yet β€” beyond the glitter β€”
a quieter meadow grows β€”
where souls β€” without their costumes β€”
find shade the daylight knows β€”
