It was like they played by a different rulebook
The same board but different games
We were playing checkers
In a world of chess
Where we were from
Everyone mattered
Every piece was the same
Equally important
Equally capable
But they turned this land into a battlefield
Where the king hid in his fortress
Behind a moat of humans
Same board
Different moves
Classified pieces
Licenced with allowances
Monsters made of power

I guess in the end
She didn't have to say anything at all
I just knew
She had suffered more than she deserved

Once upon a time
I dwelled in the heart
Of one with hazel eyes
Her kisses would set my brain on fire
Exploding every nerve ending
With an energy that compelled me
She became my salvation and my torment
It was the hunger that brought us together
And the feast that kept bringing us back
There's a darkness tempting you,
I stood still, thinking why
You'd be gone so soon.
I collected my things, my cap and mac,
And you said, Don't go just yet.

Go where?

You slapped your ruby gloves
Against your outstretched palm;
You turned that look of regret;
Then was heard what we knew was absurd:
Please, don't go just yet.

Deeper the knife
        Went deeper

          I felt the pull
Sharp like a bullet

Deep wound
    Casualties

In what kind of war

Somebody was screaming
But no one knew what for

Deeper the knife
        Went deeper

I felt the pull

Diggin into my t-shirt
And through my pulse

Deep deep
       Wound
Bleeding me out

In what kind of cold

It felt like I was freezing
When the knife was pulled

Out.

What he didn’t say
with voice,
he spoke clearly
with tears
that never left

his eyes.
