I took sanity out for a walk today
And it seemed to slip my mind
We haven't been getting along as of late
And I hate it when it hides

If it were up to me
I'd keep it locked up all the time
With my sanity out running free
There's no telling the trouble that it'll find

This isn't the first time this has happened
Not the first time it's escaped
Followed by wild eyed giggling and non stop laughing
As it skipped along its merry way

So if you happened to see my sanity
Would you kindly send it home
Me and its next of kin "In"
Are starting to feel a little paranoid

I heard a Fly buzz—when I died—
The Stillness in the Room
Was like the Stillness in the Air—
Between the Heaves of Storm—

The Eyes around—had wrung them dry—
And Breaths were gathering firm
For that last Onset—when the King
Be witnessed—in the Room—

I willed my Keepsakes—Signed away
What portion of me be
Assignable—and then it was
There interposed a Fly—

With Blue—uncertain stumbling Buzz—
Between the light—and me—
And then the Windows failed—and then
I could not see to see—

there is a point where
some brokens
can't be fixed
Every morning I head to the airport
Where the daily poems depart and arrive
I'm always hoping to catch a rhyme
Coming in on an early flight

When at Gate #9

I saw what appeared to be a famous poem
One that looked awfully familiar
I think that we might have worked together in the past
Early on in our careers

But so many have flown in and so many flown out
It's so hard to keep most of them straight
So we nod as we pass each other by
On our way to another of life's gate

Right then comes a gaggle of poetry
Newly fresh poems down on the tarmac
This is moment I'd come here for
And need to think fast on which ones to grab

...and I did grab me a handful,
took them straight back to my place
This should give me enough of something to do
At least for a couple of days...
time

takes out it's loaded gun
shoots holes in us for fun
daring us to try and run

time

knows the game and plays it well
watches from the side or there about
has us play against ourselves

time

laughs at you in your shame
takes delight in giving pain
whispers to the passing wind, your name

time

is the wicked stepchild
the mad dog running wild
the haunt in the midnight howl

time

takes what you offer, gives back no change
feels that it must rearrange
places on you all the blame

time

holds tight to lost memory
takes it's que from history
spits on you before it leaves

time*

draws on another cigarette
exhales the stench of death
*till up in smoke is all that's left

just because you can't see the stars it doesn't mean they're not shining.
The other day my cousin Mabel
She said to me
Mike I ain't never seen
Nothing before like your poetry

Cuz, you need to be famous
We're going to take this on the road
We're going to knock down some doors
We're going to make some heads explode

She said I know this feller
He's going to do good by you
He's one of them there agents of sorts
He'll put you in the news

Right then and there she called up Bubba
Who believe me, didn't come cheap
Wanting all the money up front
If he was to represent me

So I handed over all my doe
And now that's where we are
On a whirlwind of a tour
Of America's Super Wal-Marts

He even had me a bunch
Of my poetry books printed out
I think that they're in English
But I still have my doubts

That's okay cause most here
Prefer not to read
And Bubba had his kid draw in some pictures
Which seems about all they need

They ask if I'm famous
I come back with a lie
Ever hear of Jeff Foxworthy?
Well I know that guy

That's when the book sales took off
Like history in the making
I told Bubba to buy his son more crayons
We're going to need more illustrations

Yes this being a famous poet
Seems to really suit me
Tomorrow we're going to set up a stand
Outside of Denny's

We'll be hitting the breakfast crowd
Right on up through lunch
So move over fame your in my spot
Just call it a hunch
i met friday
on a thursday
she said she loved me
on a sunday

we've been together
seems like forever
she loves to kiss me
in stormy weather

we got married
on a monday
in the month past
january

she had my baby
on a tuesday
we named her wednesday
the next saturday

now we're all set
throughout week
with baby wednesday
friday and me
