windmills churn,
the ocean blue-
my love is sweet
and so are you
lustrous sky
framed by my window
master brush-strokes
Sun kisses Cloud
My body aches.
The spaces between my bones feel like they're filled with glue.
My chest is tight.
When I breathe in, it reminds me that I need to sleep more and dream less.
I consider the kindness of the ground below me as I stand, sipping at chai tea and staring catatonically at the only light in the room.
I consider the kindness of the walls as my eyes move to your things on the table.
I folded your shirt,
but before doing so,
held it to my face.
It smelt of your skin.
I don't want to forget you.
Promise you won't forget me?
The light spotlights these things,
so I take a picture.
This is what I need to do.
The picture is warm
and reminds me of sunrise.
I close my eyes
and feel orange and yellow.
The scratch of your unshaved face on my cheek.
On your way out the door,
you tell me that you might die today, and that you love me.
My stomach churns.
I hope you know that if these are the last words you say to me,
I won't ever be okay.
I try and slip into sleep.
But "four more days" creeps into me,
wraps around my heart and squeezes it tightly until my eyes fill with tears.
I'm sobbing now.
Clasping my hand over my mouth to muffle the sound.
I can feel each day like a rope around me.
Tomorrow, around my neck.
Thursday has my arms and legs. Immobilizing me.
Friday, my lungs.
I'm weak.
Tossing and turning.
When will I see you again?
How many more seconds until then?
Twenty seven days between.
Twenty seven days left lonely.
I'm hoping twenty seven days isn't enough time for you to change your mind.
God knows twenty seven lifetimes wouldn't change mine.
Say hello to

The world of yesterday
and to those who
helped to pave the way

What we go through
is never meant to last
as we must surrender
to what is past is past

Say hello to

Those in history
as we elude to
soon to be you and me

Can't help but think
that is oh so wrong
but where we'll all soon be
is what is gone is gone

Say goodbye to

Those of yesterday
have we all been lied to
on how they spent their day

Is no one left here
who holds those memories
making it so clear
to the likes of you and me

Say goodbye to*

Those in history
as they drop from dying limbs
on mans family tree

*They've had their fun
now it's time to move along
let the rest of us sing
our own dirge in song

I didn't believe them
when they told me
you smoke.
Until one day,
you told me
yourself that
you do and
proudly showed
me your pack of
cigarettes.
So close and yet away from shores we tread
That mass of grey so thick, there lies as dead
A foggy veil which blocks the way and sight
A ghostly form that fills all hearts with fright

Forever there, it lingers ever still
From very far, you feel its icy chill
In either dead of night or sunny day
It leads all sailors bold enough, astray

Yet I have seen her crossing part of it
I'm almost sure that we will never meet
Towards a land unknown, into the fray
She sails alone and casts the mists away

Reveal what lies beyond the smoky shroud
What wonders hides that huge, so steadfast cloud
Just lift the smoke atop the river deep
Unveil the realm where silently you weep

Come sailing down and take me there to see
A land whose gates have one and only key
I long to witness what it truly hides
Behold with my own eyes where she resides
