Whatever Happened To Misfortune?
It is difficult
to find anybody
who hasn't been
diagnosed
with something
and seems
to wear their
alleged affliction
like a shiny
merit badge.
People seem to want
to be rewarded
for being troubled,
as if falling into a hole
is the same as
jumping down
into it.
I suppose
they want sympathy,
but put sympathy
in a shoebox
and see how much
it weighs.
Victimhood:
the new disease
of our time.
Prognosis: poor.
