Road to Here

I'd like to retravel
The road to here
Straighten out a few curves
Undo some straight lines
Unmuddle some puddles
Shake the mud out of my eyes
Take more time to explore
Those missed detours

The road to here
Has been a long one
Sometimes walked
Sometimes on the run
Sometimes rocky, often dusty
And sometimes fun
But never did I ever
Leave a deed undone

I traveled it in the rain
I traveled it in the sun
Ups and downs and switchbacks
There's no going back again
Can't be redone
Miles and miles and miles
Of tears and smiles and love
The road to here.

We are more than the whole,
Are lives define our life
What we make,
What we create,
What we destroy
We are the janitors,
We create life
We take life,
What are we?
Are we gods?
Are we demons
Good,
Or
Evil,
Does it exist,
Are we the sum of our parts
Each different,
But together a whole
Do we change,
Are we meant to obey
Do we fight the power,
To fulfil our destiny.
We are the children of earth
But are we destined to be stars,
Can we survive are stupidity
To be better than we are
We are separate,
Are we one.
Can we evolve past the hate
We are kind,
We are not
Human,
But
Animal instinct,
Can still control us,
To conquer,
So much harm to another,
But we wish for peace so much
We are separate but we are one, never forget we are human.

The buildings in the city
Love to talk about
All the hustle that's within
And bustle that's without

Downtown people always
Scurrying here and there
As the buildings windows
Take on a reflective stare

Everyone around them
Always on the go
Not knowing where they're going
But staying with the flow

Not at all the least bit concerned
With other peoples lives
As they take another rung
On the corporate ladder of lies

If the buildings could they would
Try and help them out
They feel they're partially to blame
Since the city came about

When men all got together
To give progress a name
Not knowing this same progress
Would be their ball and chain

If the buildings only had
Warned some time ago
That most of what man attains
Leads to his downfall
