He stumbled through the high grass
It stung as it slapped his face
His mission was to find Joseph
No one else cared about Joseph
And so he would save him
It would be no one but himself

Then there was a leg
One he did not notice
Until he had fallen and
Landed right on top of Joseph
For a moment, he felt joy
But such a fleeting moment it was

Joseph was only another casualty
Nothing but a mound of flesh
His gut was blown out
No one had covered Joseph
When he needed it
No one had known Joseph needed it

But now, he did not allow sorrow
There was no place for it here
On this brutal battlefield
Death was too often out here
Some his friend, some his enemy
Some tears, some rewards

Death had made its impression
Imprinting itself in his brain
Settling into the depths of his soul
Scratching, burning away at him
Yet it did not **** him
He would live to die another day

I'll let your voice wash over me
Like a sweet symphony

I'll let your body blanket me
Let our scents mingle

I'll let your words heal me
While the taste lingers

I'll fall for you all over again
With any luck, it'll never end

I'll surrender to this lovely forever
Play tricks on our eternity

I'll let your touches fill the void
You'll be my medication

I'll hold you closer than before
And feel all your warmth

We'll be comforted by the knowledge
That this love is our infinity
let me drown my sorrows
in your eyes
moving
above me

sunlight
shadows
taking turns to caress
our skin
the wind
stirring the leaves
in the autumn

don't close your eyes
you are
about to save me
whisper to me
again
into the crook
of my crooked neck

tell me
how much you love me
let me bury
my face
in the fold of your arm

whisper to me again
i will press your hand
to my chest
stilling
you're breaking my heart
with your honesty

whisper to me again
tell me
how fragile you are
with your eyes
the words
coming from your lips
taint my memory
with the sweetest music
and i wish
that it would stop

all grown up and here i am
a child again

you've taken me back to the easiness
of jokes and meaningless words and smiles
that mean nothing more than happiness

childish tunes of light footsteps
and heavy touch of hand on hand
and cold air burning cheeks bright red
and heaters bringing out the best in our ability
to just lie still and complain
about things we know don't matter, and besides
with you, it's all a joke, it's all a game
and yet there's a seriousness to the smile in your eyes
that pins my chest to yours
and my mind to your words
and it's this combination that keeps me here
after hours, after the walls have been emptied of echoes
and the windows are darkened by cold and near-midnight

with you, growing older and younger
and happier
simple words come to mind
so here they are

let's keep growing together
it's all good in the 'hood

And I felt the numbing heat
And it burned outrageously

So I walked out
And never returned

There weren't any words
For the things to be said

And we never looked back
We abandoned our hearts
