travel light sideways
long for lowland to inhale sunny afternoon
tin roof laughing
river is flowing gently

kisses if I stumble
The wolves come out to watch
when night falls.
They mean you no harm.
They will not leave.

When night falls,
your silent guardians rise.
They will not leave
until you are ready to wake.

Your silent guardians rise,
sentient of your dreams
until you are ready to wake;
their firefly eyes aglow.

Sentient of your dreams,
they mean you no harm.
Their firefly eyes aglow,
the wolves come out to watch.
NaPoWriMo Day #24
Poetry form: Pantoum
One day, I saw her with that man and I chose to look away.
She came home and asked me how was my day.
I said very nice thank you.
I asked her what she did today, nothing she said.
Lies.
I saw you with that guy I said,
I know you were in his bed.
I know you think of him when I'm in you,
I swear to god I wish you knew.
That I, I get hurt with these actions that you do.
Is it because I'm a man you thought that I wouldn't care that you cheat,
Did you think since I'm the man I wouldn't care if the kitchen wasn't neat.
But I do,
One day, one day I won't need you.
But I just nod my head and say nothing and walk to the room.
Just thinking about that one day, that one day I won't need you.
For the most part,
I walk off the beaten path.
I've never remotely thought
that I'd meet someone like myself.
See, I never believed in fate anyway.

A " half ", they said.
She had fair hair with streaks
of cotton-candy pink.
Pale skin like snow in December.
Diffident but kind & gentle.

" Who'd ever give him the
time of day ? ", she says but
her actions show otherwise.
We argue like we've
known each other forever.

She says our lives are a lot like
Romeo & Juliet.
I disagree but I admit,
we were similar in many ways.

She hates it when girls get too close.
She loves it when I notice
new things about her.

She's foul-mouthed, and explodes
for no apparent reason, and it seems like her only motive is to constantly taunt me, but she says " I hate you " with a smile on her face.

I said I didn't believe in
fate,
but those blue eyes are
eternal.
Gone again Here again
Gone again Then back
Gone again Here again
Returned so out-of-whack
Gone again, again
Again Again
Again Again

Welcome home
Where you are madly
Brilliant

Because you're down again
Here again, up again
All around again again
Then you win
Every turn of phrase, all the days
Every phase beginning
Every morning
And ending every morning
You mourn for no particular
loss, you are lost only
a moment, but you hone it
Yes darling you cherish
that smile
The pleasant weather says
Please stay awhile and

You do because the weather is nothing new

Darling you
Grow again Shrink again
Gone again Then back
I disappear again
Again...
Again...

Yet it seems life is not repetitive
Experimenting with repetition

Howling wind seeps through the 1930’s brick building housing prison education
Biting cold as the last gasp if old man winter’s breath tries to maintain its grasp
Bundled inmates frantically type in a vain attempt at kinetic energy creation
Plodding ever towards the twenty-five word per minute goal
Signifying they have the required the typing skill set needed to pass the dreaded G.E.D.
Muffled loudspeaker shouts indiscernibly at the masses as line movements are the order of the day
When you were so small
you felt weightless in my arms.
I wanted to freeze the times
I held you close
so I could step back into those moments
and relive the warmth of your silken cheek
against my breast.
To smell your hair
and watch your perfection
as you slept.
Swiftly time flows
tossing us upon rapids of change.
Yesterday you rolled, today you walked.
Yesterday you babbled, today you spoke.
Your toddle steadied
now you run.
You lost your diapers,
your chubby cheeks,
your training wheels.
Candles now cover your birthday cake.
I held your hand to keep you safe,
now you hold mine in company.
As an infant
you warmed me with your flame.
As a child
you feed me with your fire.
You push my anger
you pull my love.
I'm learning more than I teach.
