ghost dad
A peck of his lips filled with sin
     my labored breathing
his calloused hands wander my body
          exploring every inch of me
He holds my hand
      and steals my breath
with a rope he found in the kitchen
Calloused hands wander over my body
as he lay me with his ex lovers
each more beautiful than  the next
each more grave than the last
Beware of boys with blue eyes like sapphires dropping in the ocean

You recount in detail the three old ladies
outside of the diner,
how you listened in as they
described the sky to one another.
One traced the swirls of the clouds
with trembling hands;
you thought it so beautiful,
you could have cried.
-
The record player is spinning the blues
through a gravelly veil.
I anticipate the moment
you lift your hand to your heart,
and exclaim:
"I love this next line!"
-
Sadness creeps in late through
your living room window
like the moon diving
into the ocean;
a wave of grief consumes you,
violent and unforgiving,
as you pour us another glass of
cheap white wine.
-
I feel like a thief in the night
when I think about you
on the train ride home,
as city blocks turn to fields,
and back to blocks again.
There is something blasphemous
about seeing you so clear.

Maddie
Open arms
Like a friendly invitation
Calling me in
Drawing me closer
Wrapping around me
Squeezing so tight
Tight around my neck
No breath
Pleading
Begging
They let go
Choke back my tears
Apologize
I accept
Hug and make up?
Nod of my head
Familiar hands on my back
Stab
Blind sided
Falling for the trick
Falling on my knees
Begging please
Hand me a bandaid
Stick it on my back
Tell me it's all better
While there's blood running
Running down my back
Pooling at my feet
But we pretend
Pretend it isn't there
Like we don't see it
Oh what good actors
Great actors we are
How could we possibly ignore
The life slowly seeping
Out of me
