Dark n Beautiful
Fear the poets that wielded great power with their pens.

Sometimes I lay in bed and watch
The ceiling fan trace its never ending pattern
If I blink rapidly the blades seem to slow
In bursts of suspended animation
This is also my life as
I watch the never ending pattern
Woven day by day, minute by minute
But if I blink, it does not slow
It merely vanishes out of reach
And I don't even know what I missed
So why am I wasting time watching a fan?

my head is filled with crazy thoughts
to the point i went out and bought
a heavy duty combination lock
to keep it all well guarded

keeping them both out and in
the depths of my loony bin
is this were it all begins
homegrown or imported

does it come in a brown bag
to go orders from out the head
taking home all that is left
for later consumption

as always though the sanity leaks
from my crooked smile, between the teeth
as in and out i can't help but breathe
the thought of around the bend, crazy's coming...

Wise guys in Presley-style haircuts
mill around the booming jukebox
It's late in the fifties
and there are no hippies
Sweltering October afternoon
So you buy a soda and drink it slowly
Your meagre resources make you lowly
I stand in awe, dazed and wondering
This machine has a hand and a brain
Feed it a coin and it picks your song
Suddenly King Creole is playing
and they all jump like catfish on the pole
I'm no square so I too twitch, turn and jump
Everybody is dancing
and life is a rock'n roll song
Thanks Steve for the correction. I had called it a 'duke box'!!! Perhaps an error emanating from the phonological similarity.

I never meant to be a sad story
But we cant all have happy endings

I cannot help but lament at
The futility of being a word-weaver,
As I try and search for the
Perfect topic that could steer
My blundering, fumbling conversation
With you to something more than ordinary
Alas, hours pass and I fail miserably, so,
Dejected, I lucidly write about it on Hello Poetry.
Smooth, eh?

I sit in the judgement seat awaiting my fate. I thought I could get away with it, but I was wrong. I didn't mean for it to happen, it seemed funny at the time. I didn't think the cat would really mind. Just a few pieces of tape on the little cats paws. I didn't think it would be that bad, now I wish I had used the dog. When the little cat was let loose he had a panic attack. He rolled and flopped trying to get it off and then I heard it go crash. Into the china cabinet, as he was headed for the door. I tried to catch it before it hit the floor. My mothers favorite china, a giant serving plate. Now I sit here waiting for my fate. I begged for here to punish me, but she said oh that will never do. I want this to be a family affair, I want your father here too.

He’s gone flying
Across the azure skies
While in your juices you fry

He’s gone paddling in the lake
Where tiger fish are jumping
While you lie in a puddle

He’s gone wan and solid
And remained stolid
While you wilt like a dying flower

(Note: The first two lines of this poem were used by Diane Wakoski as a prompt for students in her poetry workshops. I couldn't resist the challenge. The result was this poem. Try it yourself.  - mce)

Next time we meet,
let's keep our clothes on.
Let us observe
the proprieties,
proper and Puritan.
Let us maintain
the distance of fools.
Let us smile
the waxed smiles
of corpses.
Let us pretend
we have never
danced within
one another,
have never sung
unlikely songs
of flesh and desire.
It will be awkwardly
exact and Victorian,
but it will be safe.
No heartbreak will ensue.
Next time we meet,
let's keep our clothes on.
