Roses
Bruce Evers Jun 2015
This road we walk leaves us begging for answers
Leaves us begging for meaningless words and second chances
When we talk.

The shadows are dark in this crowded city scene
In this corporate hungover world,
You guide me through the seams.

A rose by any other name should sound as sweet,
To give all of it's love away and ask of nothing from me.
This poem is lyrics to a song I wrote, it's on my soundcloud.

Fireflies

They blink like diamonds in the treetops
Shining lights of life through the canopy of darkness
Dancing like kindred spirits

Dilemma
Bruce Evers Jun 2015
I stopped addiction in its tracks
And down the railroad it ran back
To creep behind and burden me
Things I thought I buried deep

Imperfect I now see I am
Faithless and without a plan
Normal like a human being
Full of a familiar feeling

Impeccable I wish to be
Flawless to all eyes that see
Sculpted like a work of art
Standing in this trailer park

What are dreams I can't fulfill
Pushed off from the window sill
Here I pull from life's small till
To supply the pleasure to my brain

Dopamine you ****** fiend
I'd love to **** you, watch you bleed
But without you I'd know no love
And with no love there is not one

Chicago
Bruce Evers Jun 2015
The EL train howls through the avenue
Autos move slow through slush
Trudging about I think of you
Thoughts flow, my mouth hush

And even through this cold air,
I can't stop my feet from going on
It's as if I am without a care,
When Chicago has me in her arms

The Skin I Shed
Bruce Evers Nov 2015
I am trapped between the metal walls in my head
I am fettered to the mattress on my rickety bed
I am stuck between the want to fall behind or get ahead
I am the skin I hate, the skin I love -
the skin I shed

Time and Space
Bruce Evers Jun 2015
There used to be a girl I knew and we'd dance under lights
Didn't think about the future, forgot the present life

There used to be a town I knew but the homes are boarded up
Make room for the city, make room for the trucks.

There used to be a train I took, it went to the valley and back
Now the valley's but gone now - trees grow in the tracks

I used to be the president, now I'm just another resident
You be the king and I'll be the joker so you can't fool me.

Time and space, they have no place
In my mind, we'll all move on.
This poem is also a song I wrote.

Shores
Bruce Evers Jun 2015
In this never-ending search for compassion,
I learn to abandon myself and my fashions,
I long to stop the cycular motion,
And feel the love finally shining,
Like a lighthouse on the long dark ocean.

Dreams and hopes and big ambitions
Love for learning and brighter visions
Adolescence, and fruition
And classrooms where words once spoke.

Of walls that smell like laughter
Of dreams caught, sought after
Of webs of friends and short-lived lovers,
And paper where thoughts were written

Like floors of white, and walls the same
With lockers red, where we once came
In mornings, lunch and afternoon
Conversations end too soon.

With handshakes, of high fives,
Cars that we would drive,
Tests we took, and times we shared
And teachers who were always there

In preparation, in development
In transformation, of evidence
Of formation, of foundation,
And grey steps that lead inside

Eyes
Bruce Evers Nov 2015
Who is normal?
I've never met them in my life
Can I get a warning?
Before they decide to stop by-
Hold your head up high
In a world so dry

I ride my ego
All the way to the top
The elevator
Breaks down and stops
Should I step in or step out?
Will we always go round?

So call me resourceful
Nobody forced you
And I know it's hurtful
But nobody forced you

Who is calling?
So late on my phone
It is appalling
To hear your voice alone
You speak to me
You're so **** cautious
And your words they
Make me nauseous

Love is ending
Love is not gold
it does not shine
It cannot be sold
But it is a resource
I can use
And it is something
I abused

Passionless
Bruce Evers Jun 2015
Sometimes, I am passionless.

Breathlessly, I gasp for words.
They don't come.

Is it possible to hate someone
Who has done you no wrong?

Only if it is possible to love someone
Who has done you no right.

Stranger
Bruce Evers Jun 2015
You and me are strangers,
Both born on a street,
Both wearing these suits and these shoes,
Smoking cigarettes cause we've nothing to lose
Both trapped in this four walled world
Both been lost and both been twirled,
Both with hearts, and both with brains
Walked free, and been tamed.

You and me are strangers,
Both shielding imperfections
And nursing our infections,
Both blank our minds when we sleep
Both resist the urge to weep
Both together, almost the same
So let us part and walk away
For we must go our separate ways
Back to the places we are from
After all, we are strangers
