There is someone
Who I used to be
When time was young
And skies were free

When great pines towered
Over northern lands
And a man could live
By the work of hands

That world to you
Would seem quite strange
To see rolling forests
Before a mountain range

Now all you know
Is dark steel and grey
The colors of progress
And urban decay

You know not what you lost
And in that is bliss
For I yet remember
The warm sun's kiss

.
Times like these...
Just make you want to get up and run.

Forget the ache in your knee,
forget the weight on your back.
Forget the problems in your pocket,
forget the secrets in your sack.

Times like these...
Just make you want to dive deep.

Forget the myth of what lurks below,
forget the cautionary voices in your head.
Forget the whispers of restraint,
forget the monsters under your bed.

Times like these...
Just make you want to take off and fly.

Forget the wings that remain invisible,
forget the winds which refuse to carry.
Forget the bottom that awaits you,
forget the beckoning arms of gravity.

And take that leap into
the great unknown...

.
If the stars
Do not come out
At night,
Does it mean
That they are
No longer there?

If the sun
Cannot shine
Through the
Dark grey clouds,
Does it mean
That it vanished
Into thin air?

If the moon
Does not grace us
With its silvery light shadow,
On any given night,
Does it mean
That it will never
Be seen again?

If our hearts
Shatter and break,
If we go numb inside,
Does it mean
That we will never
Feel whole again?

These are questions
That no one can answer;
Only God knows
If and when,

All we can say is
"God willing!"
And If God wills it,
We will know,
Only then.

I knew you as a person
who wore daffodils in her hair;
dancing barefoot in the fields.
Always unpredictable,
your aura, like an aurora of Pandora's open box.
Recklessly compassionate in your unrelenting affection.

I remember when they told me
that you had passed away.
I watched as they returned your body to the earth.
They say that you're in heaven now,
but I don't know how this can be true
when every day I still feel you in my heart.

Maybe your daisy chain was a halo
and the fields that you danced on were clouds.
I think I finally understand.
I knew you as a person,
but maybe you weren't.
Maybe you were just an angel
that got lost along the way.
This is my first attempt at a free verse poem, please feel free to send me a message with feedback or critique. I honestly don't know what I am doing and writing this was a huge challenge for me. This is for anyone who has lost someone close to them in their lives. People die, but they live on in the hearts and souls of the people who loved and cherished them. Carry their spirits into the new world and they will live on forever.
