Finding Hope
Victoria Egba Mar 2020
I gave a fresh breath of warm air,

Blowing the dust and cobwebs

From my sweet Bible and Book

Turning through the pages of Hope

And the books of vision and goals,

I ask the dumbest question on earth

"How did I miss it"

My first name was fun, and the other flex

Moving from white to grey and sleeping at Black.

Dwelling with quotes from people like me.

Justifying wrong as right,

And spreading lies to our conscience.

But at critical points, we turn.

Left to right, back and front

Searching for one thing we always had.

Hope!

Oh how sweet the Word could be,

Promising that though our trees be cut down,

One day it shall grow again.

But what lies have we fed our hearts,

That though the answer be written,

Plainly in Black and White.

We search desperately in burning hot coals.

So I dust the dust off my books

And find solace in my only Hope.

Night Wolves

Sometimes I fear to shut my eyes,
Or rest for the night.
For the demons and spirits hunt me.
Calmly, Slowly, and Shocking.

Sometimes I could feel them,
Throwing a festival in my head and mind.
With loud voices and lit dance moves,
They bring anxiety and Confusion to my heart.

I know one day I'd stand up to them
And wipe them off my body and soul.
But till then,
I fear to shut my eyes

.
Sometimes I want to get Drunk,
And not in Spirit.
Drown at the end of spirit bottles.
Feel the burn in my chest
And buzz in my head,
As I laugh to tragic jokes of life's torture.

But sadly, I'm no alcoholic.

Uncertainty
Victoria Egba Mar 2020
On a Friday night we met.
Shakes and hugs, we shared.
You had a smile that was rare.
One which made darkness turn to light.

We would sing and laugh,
And share depth of ourselves at night.
Very unsure I am, if you see what I see.
My heart just skipped a beat, thinking of you.
But unsure I am, if you feel what I feel.

So silence I give, secrets I hide.
To keep myself from a broken heart.
But if you shine your light brighter
And look a little closer,
It's quite easy to see,
How much I love you.
