Is this the America
That the founders had in mind?
When America was founded
What was their design?
Did they mean for us
To become resigned,
To the internecine warfare,
That today we find?

Is this the America
That the founders had in mind?
When they came together
So they could redefine
The autocratic government
That had them in a bind
From which they did their best
To unravel and unwind

Is this the America
That the founders had in mind?
And did they foresee,
Our present day decline?
And if they did,
Would they be benign?
Or would they insist
That we get back in line

Is this the America
That the founders had in mind?
When a despotic president ,
Chose to cross the line?
By casting false aspersions
On opponents thus defined
And giving the red meat
To those similarly inclined

I get it
I'm broken inside
Most of me would like to die...
She keeps reminding me
I can't do anything right
The pills I take
Impair my sight
24-7 she lets me know
I'm but a burden
That needs to go!

Men and women come home from war with limbs missing. Their body parts lay in the dirt of some foreign land. American blood stains another person yard, and yet they keep standing for what is right. Our children can't pledge allegiance to our flag but burning it is okay. Our politicians open our borders but American children cannot go out into the city streets and play. Drugs and violence end innocent lives while politicians complain about civil rights, unless you try to mention God or own a gun then they say you have no rights.  Our leaders turn their backs on their own people while running down the land of the free. If the haters of our country had their way they would take all our freedoms away from you and me.

I could live forever and still
never forget your face, unlike
the other girls who I knew
I was too old and ugly for
but there you were, dressed fit
to **** in your black beret, short
shorts the color of a forest, a Che
T-shirt cut above your navel, a
ragged copy of the Manifesto
in your back pocket, like a bandanna
to cough in, playing the cello
so well in all the cafes around town
a mournful sound like the wind makes
at night when I go to visit your grave.

I can not be loving you like this,
Forgetting to let my heart beat,
And constantly wondering what you need,

Or feel,
I’m losing me,
Alone fighting for us in this quicksand you told me was called love!

I can not be loving you like this,
Feeling like I am losing a little part of me,
With each skipped beat from a heart that no longer wants to feel,

I can not be loving you like this,
Dreaming dreams I will never live,
And grasping onto pieces of our sinking ship!

Or feeling;
Like I am alone roaming this earth
Living in the memories of our last kiss

I can not be loving you like this,
Wishing you were here kissing my lips,
And living in a castle that we will never build!

Or losing,
Me, while I seek thee,
In your world where you see all but me,

I simply can not go on;
Loving you,
No, not like this!

I can not feel,
When you standing there smiling at me,
I can not be loving you, no not like this!
In this quicksand he called love!
