i still try to remember
to take my boots off
at the door

my feet are wet
from walking in the rain

i leave laetoli footprints
on the pine floor
-like the first man

trying to walk upright
but can't seem to
get it straight

There's a lot of empty space
in a house
so full of quiet

Your kisses were poisonous
your hands felt like knives
taking what you want
opening me up, revealing everything
without even asking me
dissecting me
violating every inch of my body
you looked at me with your eyes but the rest of you devoured me
distracting me with your sweet words
I never stopped you
I didn't know my own body was worth fighting for.

Monsters never leave us

They just sleep

until we think we are safe

Then our demons come back

and we realize they never left
